An idea from a SEO noob.

I'm sure someone has already thought of this. But I was wanting to bounce it off you guys anyway.

Since penguin has knocked a lot of sites out of the top ranks the consensus seems to be all about cleaning up the damage...anchors and back links etc.

Well how about finding the bulk of competitors above your page rank and give them some free advertising.
LOTS of free advertising. Post and link spam them, to the point they get the G slap...and get belted down the ranks below you.

Bad idea? Good?

Brilliant dude, you should go work for Google. So they can mitigate crazy awesome ideas like this.

I did this with my new site. I was ranked 314th, Xrumer'd the 313 sites above me with porn links and now im #1 earning "ZE CASHOLA"

Anchor text is so 2011. These days if you want to rank you use porn image links. Look out for my WSO coming soon!

Nah..not something I care to do...I'm having fun just trying to get my first site off the ground. And so I will return to reading edicts of those who have gone before me.

@op what you just described is negative seo and it's in play now. Don't believe the hype most people don't know how to neg seo correctly so in the long run they will just help competitors. The reason your getting flamed is because it's a bit unethical. A person should worry about there own site Rather then destroying others.

On a side note I like the way you spun it thou, sounds more mystical. Anyways good luck with your first site, you need any help pm me.

Couple pointers :
Fiverr is your friend if done correctly
always-- always -- always!!! Have 3-5 links on post/pages going back to your site for various posts/pages
Also your links offsite must be varied alot. With a good onsite link structure you can rank with just about any off site anchor link
Diversify you link portfolio as much as you can
Read, read, read some more.
