    Hello,

I came up with an idea to create a custom search engine within a specific niche, simply searching other established sites within the same niche, if they allow me to link to them. I know how I could monetize the site.

I am not a developer, I have experience with web development, and I understand some code but I am not a coder.

Since I am not fluent in developing sites from scratch, I want to know if there are any good tutorials, templates, or content management systems that would allow me to easily develop a search engine.

I am open to anything, just want to cut out my learning curve as much as possible to get the site up and running.

You should learn HTML, PHP and SQL (and CSS if you want it to look nice). Those languages will be enough to accomplish what you're doing. There's no fast way to cut the learning curve, unfortunately. You can copy-pasta examples from google but you won't really understand what you're doing.

Easiest thing is probably to use Google custom search:) Im sure you can configure it to search several sites.

Then you just need some coding skills - or maybe you can just build straight into Wordpress.

I am opposed to using any google code. I am familiar with wordpress and joomla, I am also familiar with dreamweaver, but I have not developed anything for 3 years now. I would prefer to use some sort of CMS. But I'm not sure if that is the best structure for a search engine?

I do not think I need google search, I just want to create a search engine that searches a network of sites that I have linked to the search engine myself.

So yes something like htdig if it means "Before you can search, a database of all the documents that need to be searched has to be created."

I understand that there are other search "engine" types, there are a number of examples of sites that are similar. Some are tube search sites, others search multiple craigslist cities at once. I want to make a site similar to these actions. example searching multiple SEO forum sites from a single search. Not sure what kind of terminology I should be using... I am looking for some pointers as to what would be the best way to develop a similar search site.
