Script that will allow users to create profile pages?

Anybody know of a script or a theme or tool that allows a user to register, and then create basicly like a profile page? I guess think old my space back in the day. I really just want them to be able to upload 1 picture and then have some txt and allow them to have links or fill in fields. I guess like a member directory kinda site?

I have looked at buddypress few other things, but I figured someone on here must know of a good way to do it. If anything comes across your mind for me to look at I would be greatful.

I would prefer to use WordPress, I kinda just glanced at buddypress and I was looking at some stuff at code cannon, ect. I just kinda figured someone must have experience with this. You think buddypress would be the best option?
