scribd warning!

Well, I saw a great thread recently about using scribd to get index in google easily.

Well, I used that technique and submitted a self-created document a week back...
Today, I received this warning:

It is strictly against the Scribd terms of service to upload public advertisements, and your account has now been terminated and your IP address has been blocked. Attempting to evade the block and continue to post advertisements is in violation of Scribd's terms of use and may cause us to pursue legal action against you.

Generally, anything which promotes or links to a company, product, program, or website may be considered an advertisement. We've worked very hard to create a nurturing community at Scribd, which we offer to users free of charge for noncommercial purposes. Advertisements on Scribd do real damage to this community. Therefore, we employ a zero-tolerance policy for users who attempt to use Scribd as a free advertising platform, and this ban is permanent and not subject to appeal. We suggest you find another place on the internet to post your advertisements.

Damn! The worst part is.. I only submitted 2 documents!

Sorry to hear this. I hope you'll find a way around it.

I uploaded a document with links to an affiliate page about 4 weeks ago and so far everything is fine.

I think it depends on the niche the document was uploaded to. There might be niches where annoyed readers of your document will flag it way faster than in others. What do you think?

Good point. I know of marketers admitting this proudly(!) in public.

I'm pretty sure you can't put affiliate links there.
When I upload something, I create a really nice file with pictures. Then I put one link here and there. Never more than 4 links in the same page.
I also put one more link in the footer of page.

I just wrote an article that "flows smoothly" and anchor-linked some texts to my web 2.0 properties. Never even one affiliate link. But my web 2.0 properties links to my moneysite though. Perhaps other affiliates are trying to get rid of me because of that.

It WAS doing well.

You say properties...how many links did you put and to how many different properties?

Scribd doesn't like you to be used for promotional purposes. It doesn't matter if it's an affiliate link or a link to your other web properties. You have to make sure you don't look as if you're promoting another site.

Be subtle about your links, and definitely no more than 2. I recommend only 1.

Also, use different sites that are similar to Scribd.

About a month ago, I created a "Free PDF" and put it on Scribd. It reads like a review and comparison chart of several products which are all in the same niche. It had no less than 9 affiliate links in it. It's still there and is still making me $$$. However, the trick is to not make your PDF look "salesy" or spammy as my friend Yukinari said above.

PS: After placing the PDF on Scribd, it was indexed on the 1st page of Google within 10 minutes for the longtail keyword phrase I used. Scribd is VERY POWERFUL for fast indexing. Just be subtle and clever when creating your PDF.

Very interesting, I have a competitor that is attempting to copy my SEO campaign for a specific keyword. F'n bastard, pisses me off actually that he's blatantly doing the same exact thing that I did. I'm thinking of flaggin him.

Eventually they will find it..Scribd users 'flag' documents and eventually anything with a link will be deleted.

I just checked back, my flagging worked. I'm not one to flag, but if someone straight up copies my campaigns, I'll flag. Mission accomplished and I'm back to my normal first page control for my K/W.

Yeah..scribd is more anal these days...

Does web 2.0 work? And if yes, where can the system be gotten for either free or reasonably priced? Thanks for the help. You can PM if you want.

There was a report sold on Warrior forum recently advising folks to put articles on ScribD.
They probably received such a high volume of spam that they had to start implementing some rules. Either that or a competitor did indeed report you.

I have several docs on ScribD with 2 links in them, haven't had any problems...yet.

Yeah, probably I will do it again. But of course, just 1 or 2 links with huge texts.

I guess I will use a proxy to post it this time.

Yukinari, anyone, is there a list of sites like Scribd?

Slideshare is good for traffic too.
BUt like many document sharing sites , the one who is lurking around these sites is a freebie seekers but it's good for SEO.

Lesson learned: use a proxy! Then you just create new accounts after you're banned.

What I do is take plr articles and upload them to scribd as a pdf document and put a link at the bottom to my blog, kinda like a resource box on article sites.

For those who are banned, just use a proxy and register with fake information.

I think the niche of your resource was the reason your website got flagged plus you might have included more than one out going link. I have like 7 scribd documents with affiliate links and i haven't been warned. yet. Just open another account using a different I.P address.
