While running scrapebox in slow post mode for the blog type that requires it, the internal browser stumbled across a site with malicious code on it, and in my attempt to prevent it from infecting me, disabled my machine temporarily.

I was not running AV at the time.

Question: What protection do you guys (and girls?) use when running scrapebox?

My thinking going forward is to only run it on a xp virtual machine, so that I can always return to a fresh state on reboot, from within windows 7.

    Thanks

You should not run without AV at all, when you are connected to the internet.

Also ScrapeBox is very safe when harvesting or using fast poster etc., it rely on IE when using the slow/manual poster/internal browser.

Make sure you have the latest IE and all Windows updates.
And NEVER run a web browser (including the internal browser of ScrapeBox) when no AV is active.

ScrapeBox itself is very safe and actually tries to filter out malware URL's and the like. But wtf are you doing running any internet-connected app without av?

Guess up until yesterday I'd just been lucky! So sounds like a basic av would have avoided the issue, and there is no reason to put it on a virtual box?

    Thanks

Our A/V has been tripped a couple of times while using SB but no bad consequences. As GregStereo says, just load up your AV.....

As mentioned above ScrapeBox is quite safe, and does a lot of things to mitigate hitting websites with malware.

If you do want to run without AV (not a great idea unless you know what you're doing) you can use a classical HIPS or virtualization like you mentioned.

SandboxIE will do without virtualizing the entire host like a VM, but just remember with default settings SandboxIE will defer all disk writes to the sandbox but has full system read access. This means malware in the sandbox could read info on your system and send it out. So you will need to set Restrictions > Internet Access and Start/Run Access to set scrapebox.exe as the only executable to have internet access and the ability to run in the sandbox. Also to be sure Resource Access > Block File Access and add sensitive folders like FTP programs, profile folders etc.

A setup like this is very safe, and of course most web based exploits don't target the browser itself but vulnerable plugins like Adobe Reader, Flash, Quicktime etc so always keep these up to date regardless if you use ScrapeBox or not.

Also an AV will throw a popup even when ScrapeBox would of blocked whatever it was anyway, because the AV will get the traffic first as it comes off the TCP Stack.

    Internet > Antivirus > ScrapeBox

Quite difficult to get anything past both AV and the filtering/blocking in ScrapeBox.

I will tell you why...I bought scrapebox and have managed only to get it validated momentarily one time. I sent debugger log to support (was timely response) but was told AVG blocks it.I did not know this prior to buying. So had to remove not just disable AVG and now it gets some pop up window not previously there asking for program to access "Applicationg requesting access to protected item"..with description in maybe chinese. Then if allowed will not validate again. Creator has offered only to refund not solve issue so am a bit disappointed. ANd no...running without an AV is insane or follhardy or both but with the lock down and transferring to another computer by creator this limits ways to try and utilize on another non preferred box and the hassle invloved and also we are allowed only one transfer a month. Anyone else solve this issue please post. thanks.

I've spent a considerable amount of time looking in to your issue, and short of coming around to your house to fix your PC i'm out of ideas. And no, if you are having problems i will transfer your license to and from machines as much as necessary to get something resolved. People will tell you i've even setup 2 licenses so they could split-test issues between machines without transferring back and forwards.

Numerous times special builds of ScrapeBox have been made to resolve isolated, one off issues a user is having such as yours which is something most software developers will not do. This is different, there's nothing that can be done with ScrapeBox that will fix your PC.

I bend over backwards to help people, and i've offered you a full refund because of this problem you are having. So thanks a lot!

That's got f/ckall to do with why anyone would ever run on the internet without AV protection of some sort. Using web-based apps (much less the type of web-based apps we sometimes use) without having protection in place is just plain stupid and is asking to have your computer horked up 12 ways from Sunday.

Sweetfunny is very proactive in sorting out ALL bugs. If you're disappointed, then take a hike mate. A bad craftsman always blames his tools!

If you're having problems with your AV, then get something that actually works, because scrape box rocks - already proven by many happy customers.

Sometimes scrapebox stops for me because of flash popups and such.

sweetfunny I'm interested in buying - but I'll be buying a newer pc quite soon and want to know whether it will be easy to switch to that comp with sandbox?

And also does it come with free updates to the software for the lifetime of Scrapebox?

I have to say that despite the issue I had with scrapebox (because I was running unprotected) my experience with its performance, transfering licences, and even support requests has been exceptional. If only this kind of customer service were available with everything we purchased!

Thanks Sweetfunny for your product, I'm a happy customer.

Have to agree with dudev9! Sweetfunny is arguably the epitomy of customer service, perhaps even a "role model" for some of us who deal with customers on a regular basis!
