Scrapebox VPS requirements

Hi all, I've never used scrapebox before, so don't know what system resources it would need.

Could someone please give me an idea of a decent enough VPS that you could run scrapebox on. Example, would you prefer a 1gb ram, etc. Also, going with the VPS of choice, what would you expect to pay for this.

Value plan on vpsland.com is ok but i. e. WVPS3 on xsserver.eu will be more efficient
 
Thanks for the info. Is 1 IP enough, is 100mbit uplink good enough, or would a 1000mbit uplink be better for the same price as WVPS3 of xsserver's ?

System requirements of SB are very low. You can run it on low RAM with no problem and on a VPS with low CPU resources.

The bottleneck will be the throughput. Throughput is not the same as bandwidth. Bandwidth is the theoretical maximum transfer limit, throughput is the practical transfer speed. A 100mbps will work the same as a 1000mbps connection if it refers to the network connection only and not to the actual speed you get. Even hosts that say you get 100mbps bandwidth don't give you that in reality. It is actually 100mbps burstable bandwidth and is shared with all users on the server. If you want true dedicated 100mbps or 1000mbps it is very very expensive and no VPS has such a plan.

If you can't afford a dedicated server with 100mbps bandwidth (~$150), then just get a VPS with 100mbps connection, because you won't get even that in practice. For RAM use the recommended system requirements of the OS you install (or minimum requirements + 64 to 128MB). The CPU speed can be pretty low and there is no need for dual CPU support.

Or, you can get a dedicated server with dedicated bandwidth from hosts like these:

I am with xsserver as well, U will not get the whole 100mb speed but will get enough, it depends as it is a shared vps. It is good so far, but while going for big lists, it scrapebox crashes as well, But I think it is good, u can give it a try, there are three plans for $15 $25 and $ 35 to choose from and you do get one free ip, but you can always scrape free proxies, or get it from proxy list section of this forum.
 
-->madoctopus: if you have big link list you need at least +500mb of ram, good cpu will speed up file processing. otherwise there is no chance to make a long run without SB crushing...
 
Thanks for the comments. So you're not going for the biggest and best VPS around, you just need one that is suitable, ie 1gb ram, stable and has a decent throughput.

What makes 1 VPS better than another with scrapebox? Stability and speed of the VPS itself? ie, it's not oversold on the server side? Disk requirements? I'm guessing you don't need huge amounts of disk space.

If the list is huge you can split it manageably and run several instances of a program. It should take care of instability problems and also lower the hardware requirements as a whole since internally it is approx. 10x faster to traverse a 300 MB list than 400 MB.

welshman, find some crappy vps for a couple of $s and sign up for a month only. After of week of experimenting you'll know what you need to meet your requirements.

If you are new, why not run it from home during the initial learning phase?
 
xsserver.eu support is terrible.

My $35 plan VPS is down now. Open a high priority support ticket 7 hours ago, until now still nobody attend to it. Seems they don't have any support during the weekend. F**K!

lol your VPS could also be down because of spam complaints and never come back up. :eek:

VPS up now. They responded to my support ticket after 13 hours. Very slow support during the weekend.
 
Yes they suck slightly. The thing to remember with xsserver and VPS in general is you get what you pay for. 100 mbps connection my as$. The real bandwidth you're getting is about 5-10mbps. And you've really gotta be careful of the RAM otherwise your SB will freeze.

Here's a tip to get through long lists: set the maximum no of connections at 30, then you can rip through lists of up to 1 million keywords. It goes slower, yes, about half the speed of what you could do, but it's worth it as you can set it and forget.
 
Does everyone use proxies with xxserver.eu for their xrumer?
