Scrapebox v XRumer

Xrumer is with out a doubt the best, but it's crazy expensive and has a huge learning curve. But theres basically no limitations to what it can do. It also pretty much requires it's own dedicated server to run.
Scrapebox is great for the part-time IMer or the guy on the budget. It can do multiple things, but it's main and best purpose is scraping huge lists of URL's. From those URL's you can use it's built in commenter, which is pretty effective if you know what your doing. It doesn't need a dedicated server (although some people use a small dedi or a VPS to get faster results, theres a thread floating around here where some people were saying they were scraping like 1400 URL's per second). It has a pretty small learning curve and is fairly cheap ($47 discount here at BHW).

I would definitely start using scrapebox as other's have said and ultimately decide if Xrumer is for you. I'm a pretty big newb and I have found Scrapebox extremely effectively yielding me over 1400 backlinks in under my first 2 weeks letting the crawler's finding my site naturally ( e.g. ) no pinging.

I use scrapebox daily.
I'm not a successful IM'er yet by any means, but I do love what scrapebox can do... And you can always find someone to pay to do Xrumer tasks for you until you make the money to buy it.
The search function on BHW works great too, just a suggestion. You see this asked damn near daily on the homepage.

For me, the best results have come from Scrapebox. For money sites, where you don't want to risk sandboxing, a series of small SB campaigns is probably your best bet.
I've found some seriously great places that wouldn't work as a comment spot, but which work great with referrer spamming. Top-tier, relevant do*follow EDU and GOV sites for example. Post a comment there and watch it get deleted. But post a relevant link from your money site and it will stick 99%+ of the time.
I'm basically using SB semi-automatically. I scrape relevant sites automatically from Yahoo, rank them by PR (proxies!), and then some get manually and some get automatically commented. PR 9/8/7 I comment manually, give to my VA to comment on, or referrer spam.

I don't use SB for linkbuilding at all, but for a million other purposes XR's useless for.

That's one way to do it - OP could always use SB and if they need a massive phpbb (etc) linkbuilding campaign, then pay for XR services from a 3rd party.
