I have recently purchased SB (awesome, awesome, awesome!) and a VPS to run it on, as the windows 7 desktop I have did not seem to handle the tasks I tried very well. My question is what role does the specs of the machine/vps play into the speed of how fast SB completes tasks? versus speed of internet connection?

I'll list the specs of the VPS below.. but The first thing that jumps out is how long it takes to harvest and test proxies. The session would get up to 4-5 hours and out of the 20k+ proxies I harvested, looked like only 1400 came back anon and less than 100 google passed -- and the test is not even half way through the list. At which time, I would just cancel the session and retest the ones that passed (as it would seem a lot are dead before I even start) and end up with less than 30.

I tried to adjust connections and timeout settings, and noticed that the CPU hits 100% usage when I do 50-100 connections, but even when I lower it to like 25, it still is at 85+ (capping out periodically).

I purchased my VPS from PowerUp:Hyper V-Lite -- 3.3Ghz Single Core, 2GB ram, disk space (irrelevant I think) and my speedtest results (from VPS) gets around 100-300mbps (depending on time of day it seems).

I searched as much as I could before making the purchase at what other folks were using, and found that a lot of people seem to be using like-spec'd VPSs. I thought of maybe upgrading to a dual core; but figured I would check with everyone about what they thought, as you guys have probably been at this a lot longer than I. Any information is welcome, if you need more details let me know. I appreciate any help!

Thanks,

(Wondering if I jumped from my desktop too soon, 3G Dual Core, 4GB ram ... Charter 30mb connection)

I'm running with 150 threads and 30 sec timeout on my old laptop

100 mbit line, cpu i7 1.6ghz and 4gb ram. Cpu load around 5% (also running other stuff)

Runs like a champ

O ok.. I think i7's run 4 cores, right? So maybe the single core is my issue...

you're cool.. I am just trying to see what I need to do to get the most out of SB. I was wondering what type of improvement I would get from tweaking the system or software, or if I just need to bite the bullet.

Thanks,

Anyone running a comparable setup as far as specs, getting different results?

You should probably analyze your sources and determine if any are not getting good results. This is especially if you have added your own proxy sources.

You will definitely get better results with more than one core. I run 200 threads on 8 cores (4ghz) and get roughly 2000 proxies in an hour ish. You may want to look and see whether your RAM is capping out as well. Its probably just the CPU dragging you down.
