Hey all- Im a scrapebox user myself... but need to step up the spam protection on some of my blogs... theyre of course not being posted, but im sick of dealing with the emails notifying me of comments and trackbacks from it etc
Akismet,
or is .htaccess absolutely necessary
suggestions???

Turn comments off.

Nothing really you can do about it if askimet can't catch them except manually mark them as spam

Assuming you're using WP and want some comments, ramp up the anti-spam:

- check your Discussion settings under General
- check aki$met is properly configured
- clean up existing users - once a user gets an approved comment, future comments by same users get auto-approved; you can turn that off under Discussion too
- add additional captcha-based defences
