Scope of Leather Business ?

Hello Guys,

I have Genuine Leather suppliers and i would like to open a store for my personal brands.
Can anyone suggest me which region is best to sell leather product ?

And if there is someone who is well versed in the leather business, I need a suggestion for the best-selling leather goods.

I don't really have the experience in this area save to say I did consider selling leather goods at one point in time. I actually steered away from it because I thought it might be too generic and people can just go to the store but when I was considering that I was only considering the USA market. In my opinion the best markets are ones where you can't get quality leather products easily for a good price. So for example I live in Australia and I went looking for a very high quality leather bag. I was prepared to spend a good amount of money for quality. This was actually pretty impossible to find in our stores. The highest quality leather goods were just overpriced. The rest were low quality/medium quality and you were paying for a brand name. I ended up ordering a leather bag overseas from Italy. I paid top dollar but I received extremely high quality. I never would have done that though if I could have bought something comparable locally for the same price or cheaper.

What I would do is identify the largest department stores in a region and consider whether I am competing with huge retailers. If someone in the USA can just go to their local store and buy something similar to what you're selling then it's hard to get them to then buy from you unless you build a brand and your product has something that stands out e.g. fresh designs, cheaper for comparable quality or a luxury good which is ultra high quality but slightly more expensive.

Get in touch with those HQ assistants that work for high networth individuals on job-to-job basis. Offer custom solution, some solid commission and that'd be a good start.

At least here in India, I have seen the demand for leather goods diminish over the last 5 years. I have a clothing business, we stocked authentic leather jackets and faux (synthetic) leather jackets both. For some reason, the customers preferred faux jackets over authentic leather, even though I was selling them both at similar prices. When I enquired, why they chose the faux, they said, it was less maintenance and doesn't go bad in moist weather.

A friend sells high end luxury leather shoes in his offline store. I've only seen older people, 40 to 50 year olds buy from him. My theory is, the older crowd still value leather (back in those days it was a novelty and luxury product), the new generation prefers something more long lasting and less maintenance.

When you say genuine suppliers are you talking about hide producers from somewhere like Argentina or wholesalers from China? Skins and finished items are very different products.
