Scared of installing update. Last time my phone crashed

I don't use iOS devices, but i remember when one of my friends installed the latest update for his iPhone 4 a couple years ago and it got barely usable. Not brick per se, but sluggish as hell. Maybe this is not an existing "feature" of iOS devices these days, but it was in the past.
I've never had such issue with Android.

I personally feel that anytime anytime iPhone drops new model of phones, they make their predecessors as shitty as possible so you’d get frustrated and be forced to getting the newer model.
