So long story short, I got scammed out nearly $500 for a bot that ended up being an older version of something I could have purchased for a tenth of the price. Not only that, but it doesn't work at all. I talked to the person who made the bot and it turns out this person scams a lot of people this way. I sent the money through PayPal as a purchase of goods. What is the best way to go about trying to get my money back. Nothing was physically shipped to me, so should I open a dispute saying that I didn't receive the item, or that I received my item, but it is significantly not as described? Thank you so much to anyone who will help.

Hello TJkn126, I really hate to give the news but there is not a way to retrieve the funds you sent him. PayPal does not offer buyer protection for intangible services/goods (Something not shipped in the mail that's Physical) so you must be careful when dealing with others online when it comes to services or products that are not physical. The only way you could retrieve your funds in this instance is if you paid with a Credit Card. I hope this helps :)

What if I put I did not receive something. Since I set it to goods, they wouldn't know if it was physical or not? Thanks for the help.

Yes, always pay with a credit card for things like that. That way if PayPal says screw you just turn and laogh as you call your credit card company to deal with it and have it handled much quicker. At least in my experience.

Honestly it probably won't work because the seller can easily say that it was sent via email and then PayPal still knows. PayPal always gives the seller a chance to respond and if they are doing this a lot then they probably know the answers PayPal is looking for to side with them.

Hate that this happened to you but don't feel bad it happens more than you would think.

Your best bet would be to go about saying your PP info was stolen and used without your consent. They will go to that guy and halt his money until he provides something saying otherwise. They will usually refund you in a couple of days if they cannot prove you made the purchase (IP and other means). Otherwise, blast this person's information all over the web so others don't get screwed too, and maybe someone will run across this guy.

May case was that I sold something online to a guy that hijacked a ladies account. They froze me until I could provide reasonable evidence that from my end I was legit.

Im genuinely sorry for all the disinformation you have read this far on here. Heres the facts.

Paypal will ALWAYS side with the BUYER in the case of non-tangible goods, from software to pvas to online gold
Paypal will ALWAYS side with the BUYER in the case of goods that are not SENT with a TRACKING NUMBER

Paypal is Scared shitless of disputes with visa/mc, and so they almost ALWAYS side with the BUYER

It makes paypal a very evil vile company to deal with as a seller, i got scammed a couple of times from people buying stuff, recieving it, then charging back, and so now i will not accept paypal as payment for anything non tangible.

Go get your money back, they make it very easy. Follow the process thru, and since u feel the guys an asshole and feel u have the moral highground, maybe embellish the story a lil just to make sure they dont feel its a grey area
