Scaling Splogging in 2017

I'd love to see how great you can scale this. I made 10k+ this year with one site with auto generated content, tried to replicate a few times but it was never a success again. I only tried 4 domains in total though. Good luck!

Right. Pulled out all the data I've had sitting. Spoke to a few people and dug through some examples I've found in the wild.

Pretty confident I've got a working model now. But making a site or two and sitting back to see if it works isn't my game. I have a bunch of domains sitting about and I'll be buying some more. I'm writing the code now which will start building the basic first batch and I'll keep expanding that over the next couple of days while the first sites populate.

I've got a lot of the code I want already from bits and pieces of other projects and test runs. I'll need at least a few hours sleep but I should have the first sites live over the next day or two.

I was doing the same. I was like WTF is "splogging"? I guess there's something new to learn every day, which is not really new, just for me.

I tried this last year, made the mistake to start off with a VPS as I thought the continued posting of content and all would be best served by that. As I am not a pro with servers I wasted too much time with it and ultimately stopped before I could see any ROI. Tempted to trying this again, although I am still not sure with proper monetization.

You can try with a sharig hosting and if you get good traffuc you can switch to a vps

Projects earnings for the last 7 days: $193.80
Traffic is on the rise and I've been toying with some conversion changes. Tempted to take it network wide I suspect it would be a serious bump in the earnings even in the shorter term.

Test pages I put up last week are getting a pretty reasonable index rate around 50% so far nothing closer than page 20 in the SERPS that might improve but I would of liked to see a few longtails maybe page 2 to start with. It was a really, really small scale test though. The fact that it's indexing and at least popping up in the serps is a start at least.

Been a long couple of days staring at code. Between this and another quasi-related project (of possibly the easiest passive traffic I've ever seen) I'm going a bit stir crazy. Code is starting to come together and I've a constant stream of pages going up 24/7 now. Still loads to do. I want to tweak some stuff and then do some work to get it working on a bigger scale. Out tonight and a long ass train journey tomorrow so I'm not sure what will get done this weekend and what will have to wait for next week.

Short term goal is about 50-100 domains for this as a proof of concept. It'll be a few months before I expect to start seeing any actual traffic so the sooner I get more domains live the better but short term 50-100 will hopefully let me track some longtails and I can judge from there if it's working before scaling towards the thousands.

How many pages/post/articeles are you posting per day on one ite? Also can I ask how are you indexing your pages?

No set answer to any of this yet I'm afraid. Some sites are getting a few dozen, others a few hundred while some will be looking at thousands a day. The sooner I get content into the index the sooner it can start to rank but I'm testing the trade off between a constant stream of activity of freshness on the domain and my poor servers are already kept busy.

Indexing I'm trying everything from doing nothing to indexing services and building backlinks. I'm not submitting anything to Google as it would make Google accounts another bottle neck although I really should test this as well.

Having to make some sizeable changes to the code. I think I've seen an issue with the current content build which won't work with the latest Google updates. Picking through some of the currently ranking stuff I am seeing a pattern. Making some changes to account for this now and I'm almost done with my scaling code if everything goes reasonably smoothly I'll have that ready tonight. Not 100% hands off yet but reasonably scaled for the meantime.

Seeing strange traffic stats for one of the new sites. This site had a few hundred pages added over the last few days but a site:domain.com search isn't showing the new pages in the index. Nothing surprising since this is a fairly new domain and I'm still unsure whether this content will index yet I wouldn't think to look for traffic yet. I've been tracking index rates and happened to spot this tonight.

The site has non Google traffic which makes it a little harder to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from but the search traffic is spiking since the content started getting posted:



No phrases showing and the traffic is buried in the normal traffic so I can't see where it's coming from.

Theories so far:

1) New pages have indexed in a non English speaking Google and some longtail has been given a freshness bonus so it's started picking up a bit of traffic.

2) Existing pages which Google had already indexed have had an uptick in rankings. Either massive coincidence or Google boosting them because it's seeing freshness on the domain itself. The Googlebot has been all over the domain so site:domain.com searches aside it knows there's new content there.

3) Aliens. Although they probably use Bing.

The perplexing traffic continues to rise. Ruled out theory number 1. 2 - maybe but I doubt it. I'm wondering if they're showing a page in the SERP but not in a site:domain.com search. Possible I guess. That or maybe something with the indexing service that site is using I'd have to compare with another to be sure.

Been plodding on with the scaling code. Not had a whole lot of time to work on it but it is slowly starting to take shape. I would have liked to see some indexing data on the more recent pages that went up but indexing is being so slow. I either have to pause the project for a few weeks and see how the indexing is doing or just start scaling and hope that the indexing is just slow.

What did you use as monetization there? I am looking to give it another try on just some shared hosting as other than that there is really not much cost involved, so even low $ would be almost completely passive. Still leaning towards Adsense, but that's also because I cannot see much else working with this kind of low traffic and generally pretty bad content quality.

Conversions are on the low side this week but traffic steadily growing so I'm not concerned. Last 7 days: $170.59

Not doing a whole lot at the moment. Software running I'm going to leave it for a bit and see if this indexes. Expecting a couple of weeks at this rate.

Private script not specific to Wordpress.

I won't say Christmas came early yet but some unexpected results in today which bodes pretty well for this project. The original iteration I put together a few weeks ago (probably around the same time as the start of this journal) I ran as a small scale test before reworking it. I'd forgotten I had pages live until my rank tracker emailed me today. Took a few weeks to enter the index but the index rate is almost 100% and starting to see some traction on the SERPS.

This is good news. Splogging is certainly not dead.

The rework I've done since then is pretty big however and I'm still waiting to see how that does. Based on my tests so far I'm happy enough with the theory that it *should* work. The content should be higher quality and far more scalable. But I need to see it work in the wild before the scaling starts.

I have some work to do to speed things up and lessen the server load and a new site design I want to try out then I just need to grab a crap ton of domains and get these servers working. Focusing on other projects for a week or two just now while I see how this goes but the results today are giving me confidence.

This is really interesting. I've seen splogs in action and I've got some idea for data sources; will start working on pretty soon! Good luck with journey, hopefully mine leads somewhere too.
