SAS or SSD dedicated server

Hello guys,

Anybody using dedicated server with SAS or SSD disk?
My websites use high SQL Server I/O.
So I need a good dedicated server with SAS or SSD.

It depends...if you get enterprise SSD then go for it, in other case choose SAS. They work wonders.

Desktop SSDs can be flaky in Linux (and otherwise), and are not much reliable. Enterprise SSDs
like those from Intel are made in proper way and will work without problem in server environment.

Benchmark your current setup, find the average size of reads/writes and then go from there on determining the best. Also, if you're using a server dedicated to SQL it should be within the same datacenter and preferably on a VLAN to keep response time down.

Have a look at my signature. Add a dedicated server to the cart and you'll be able to choose SSD disks.

there is 3 way - server with more ram which can store all table indexes in ram
consider that way also because ram is much more faster than ssd and sas

my database size is almost 100 GB, I have several tables that has 1 billion rows.
So RAM option is not a good option.
Even first table scan takes lots of time because of the disk read.

If your tables do have billions of rows, I would highly suggest looking at optimizing it... Split it into smaller tables and then keep the "fresh" tables in cache and "old" tables not. Considering the size, I would look for a reputable host that is not on BHW. If its mission critical, I would go for WiredTree.com . They have excellent support and they can provision any type of server you would need.

well I cannot split tables and use cache because any data can be used anytime.

Even though it can be accessed at anytime, you should be looking at optimizing the structure and analyzing how the data is accessed. For example, a news site may have tons and tons of analytical data and all of it can be accessed at anytime, it would make more sense to put the old stuff in a different table/database. But if you want to throw power at it, you could do one of several things (depending on location, #3 may not be available.) 1) Dedicated server. Obvious choice but can get expensive. You're also limited to what the provider allows. For high-end offers, expect to pay $800+/month 2) Cloud hosting. Not so obvious, but very expensive. Probably $1400+/month for your needs. Only good for scaling. 3) Colo hosting. This has much more upfront cost and requires you to be in a suitable location, but you get the option of parting out your own hardware and getting it exactly the way you need. Some places allow you to get a full rack for ~$800/month and a 100mbps port. The downside is you need to know what you're doing and you need to have money ready. For #1, WiredTree is my suggestion. For #2 and #3, webhostingtalk.com can help.

having come from VPS's that always had one problem or another - my sites operate extremely efficiently and when you can afford it - it's the way to go.
