Interesting find from Ahrefs: Google’s AI Mode and AI Overviews often give the same meaning but cite different URLs.
They only overlap on the exact same URLs about 13–16% of the time, yet the responses are 86% semantically similar. AI Mode answers also tend to be longer and mention more entities and brands.
This makes me think visibility in AI search isn’t about ranking one “perfect” page anymore - it’s about being part of the entity + topical ecosystem Google pulls from.
Curious how others are adapting content or link strategies knowing AI can switch sources while keeping the same intent?
