Personally, I have up to 5 sites hosted on the same IP with the ranges of PR3-5 that are all pointed (sitewide too) to the main site of mine without any problems. However, most people prefer 1 backlink or few backlinks per IP.
Yes It is better to get only one link from one IP, but if you get more than one link from the same IP then it is not a issue of google ban, try to get relevant link from different domain. Always remember that relevancy is much better than PR.
Google will not ban you or give you any kind of penalty but if you get them on diff ip then you will get more link juice... If you can put them on diff C class ip then even better...
