Here is what I mean in very simple terms ? that is so easy even I can work it out.

When targeting a broad based international buyers market

Open with a loss leader ? a differentiator ? here is an example

Right you have narrowed down your target market into a funnel to get impact

What happens with this very basic ?Sales Persuasion Technique? is this :-
? A guy posts from Germany we are great too man
? A girl says from China my people are clever we built ?The Great Wall of China?
? A Cambodian says we may be new to the Internet but ?Angkor Wat? proves we are highly skilled artisans
? On and on in flow surfers from USA ? UK ? Spain ? Mexico ? Japan et al

So as you can see this ?Sales Persuasion Technique? works and you will get worldwide conversions and make bank

What would not have worked is this or similar as an opener ? ?Most People in the World are Great Workers? Bait like that is not going to attract big whales with cash to spend. Why because it is a generalization that most times people will not react to.

I'd like to add to this great post.

Many novice marketers try to make the top of their funnel wider, bringing in more prospects. But there are two problems with this method:

1) It costs more money.

2) It brings in unqualified prospects, putting more stress on the sales process (read: time and money).

Like the OP said, the better way is to narrow down the funnel so that you get more qualified prospects. Then you can focus on the bottom parts of the funnel, leading the already qualified prospects to the sale.

You'll find that working with prospects that are already qualified is crazy easy.
