I'm in the process of purchasing some big instagram accounts. I have tried this before, and once the payment was made, the former owner reset the password, changed the username, and claimed the account had been "hacked" but i kept tabs on the account and in a week he changed it back again. So I lost that money. Any suggestions on safely buying an account to avoid this happening?

When using PayPal always refuse to pay through Friends and Family. Only pay through goods and services so you can open a dispute. It takes time for you to get your money back but usually no more than around a month. Also helps to take screenshots of your convo frequently.

I think for big accounts, maybe use escrow would be a good idea.

In order to avoid scammers, you need first to stop buying / selling accounts. it is against ig tos.
