Safe way to let someone else manage it?

I've heard you can use Hootsuite to let someone else post content on your social profiles without giving them the actual acct. details for the social account. Is this how it works? From the FAQs it seems so but of course I'm sure they'll omit any potential flaws so hoping some of you can shed light on that as well as maybe another alternative, paid is OK as long as it's not a lot.
