If I do 20 backlinks (accepted) per day on an adsense monetised site will this be considered safe? Could I do more?

Sounds like a pretty low number, you should be fine.

Yes its very safe 20 and you have to remember it takes time to get them indexed as well

Thank you all for the replies, I want to do the slow and sure method between 10 ~20 per day for a month then increase to 20 ~ 40 for the next month. I want this to look natural to the big G.

20 is not much. should be pretty safe!

I will suggest you doing more.
20 is very less.It can take months and monts in coming onto top 20.
