5 people - 1 dies in the room (... Four of the five subjects were still alive ...)
4 people left - 1 dies when his spleen ruptures (... one of the four living subjects had his spleen ruptured and he bled out almost immediately ...)
3 people left - 1 dies in surgery (... the instant his eyelids fluttered and closed, his heart stopped ...)
2 people left - 1 dies when falling asleep (... flatlined for the last time as his heart simultaneously stopped ...)
1 people left - 1 shot in the head (... turned the gun on the mute subject and blew his brains out ....)

Why do humans enjoy suffering. Why is suffering an integral part of our experience. Whether it be something small like an emotional conflict or something completely unbearable and totally demented like this picture.

We must dream to stay sane, scientists did studies on rats and when the rats slept but did not dream they went crazy after a few days, running around screaming and scratching, similar to the story OP linked to.

I wonder why we must dream to live....

Sorry, didn't read the entire story... I could've died of massive heartbreak if I had read the full cold blooded experiment... it's toooooo inhuman. I hope all those died lived a very peaceful afterlife immediately later. Belated RIP to those very unlucky guys...

We're not sure why we're awake for so long and do so much.

Our biology suggests against staying up and working hard for so long, but we do, and feel a drive to do it.

Why? We're not sure.

Our natural state is sleep.

Oh no no no, it isn't a lie lol it's a mystery.

As for what sleep is, I have no idea. No one has any idea. Why don't we have an idea?!

For real, nothing makes sense. The more you think about a subject, the weirder it gets, the more it connects to other things, and then you hit the wall where our minds cannot comprehend, process, or observe the ideas without aid...so we build machines to do this for us...and soon we're going to end up building a machine that will give us data neither it nor we can comprehend...and I can't imagine what comes next (oh no it's already starting)

For as intelligent as we are, there seems to be a veil that seemingly cannot be lifted. It can drive people mad.
