I was reading dog-tag's thread about those who stay up late and I did some reading. My curiosity led me to something called "The Russian Sleep Experiment".

I don't know if you have time, but it's an interesting article to read. Nevertheless, I probably wouldn't read it but since I started I read all the way through.

It kind of freaks me out. Wanna know why? Read it for yourself!

    Any thoughts?

I stayed up for 5 days in a row, and 2 days later i was sectioned in a mental hospital as i thought the whole world was an illusion of my mind, and the only way i could get out was to jump of a bridge. Lucky i never done that, but the moral is don't miss out on your sleep when you need to, and especially if your russian.

I can see how you'd think that. It's a weird path that one.

It sounded too horrific to be true. I did a bit of search and found that it is probably a fictional story.

Hahaha the replies in this thread ease my mind, I think I'm going to stay away from Creepy Pasta, not my type of thing.

Though it was quite interesting, definitely well written.

Doesn't sound to be true. If at all such a research was conducted, a majority of things seem to be made up. The writer has done a fair job by maintaining the required tone in the article, but that doesn't help much. Although it does give you jitters but by the time you end up reading it, everything seems humbug.

My personal experience has been pretty bad. One of the most common things that lack of sleep induces is paranoia and depression. I was working on a dream project couple of years back. I used to hardly sleep for days because I had read plenty of motivational shit about not wasting a minute on trivial things. I used to sleep hardly an hour or two max, and then wake up again. It went on for four days, and on the fifth day, my parents experienced something weird. I started arguing with my family on small things and there was a sense of irritation. By the 5th night, I became paranoid and started thinking myself a failure and a worthless individual. I called a friend at around 1 am and started screaming at her. She told her parents and her parents called mine. I was taken to a local hospital where I was told to be suffering from high fever and paranoia. I halted that project next day and decided to sleep at least 6 hrs a day. It has been over 2 years and there has not been a single day when I didn't sleep 6 hrs. Although I like waking up late because the feeling of working when entire world sleeps excites me, but I ensure to get a couple of sleep during afternoon hours. I have read in a few articles that sleep helps in proper functioning of brain.

Actually sleep deprivation is a way of torturing people in certain .. ahem.. politically sensitive countries which shall not be named. (hint.. Asia..), they lock prisoners away and as soon as they start to fall asleep a guard goes and kicks them and screams at them. Can last up to 2 weeks. Not sure what happens to the people but I imagine you must go mad.

    As I said http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/blackhat-lounge/531144-people-who-stay-up-late-night-more-intelligent.html#post5193473

your head goes wrong on a lot of things if you don't give it sleep.

    Never you mind.
I haven't read this article yet but have opened it in another page. Figured I would add my own experience.

In March 2009 I ordered a bottle of Zantrex diet pills. Was really depressed and couldnt shift my weight which was causing a lot of problems for me.

ANYWAY, I didn't sleep on these pills as I was taking them wrongly. I was basically taking the equivalent of 8 cups of coffee before bed time, so obviously I didn't sleep a wink. On night 5, I was trying to get some sleep. After about 3 hours of staring into space in my bed, I realised I felt like I couldn't move. Now I say, I "felt" - because I know I probably could. But I had convinced myself I was stuck and pretty much felt like I was going to die. So I managed to reach for my phone and call NHS 24. Spoke to a wonderful lady who went through the ingredients of Zantrex and told me what was happening. She said it was a panic attack. Now, having never had one before ( or since ) I couldn't understand. There was no "panic" essentially. Just a feeling that I was going to die, and for no reason at all. I learnt that day that this is what a panic attack is! ( or can be ) I never slept.

The next evening at around 6, I snapped. And a combination of no sleep and the SEVERE depression these pills were giving me induced some involuntary suicidal thoughts. I'm talking random things would pop into my head that I would never think about normally regardless of how bad life had been previously. So I come to a conclusion that in order to be " free " - I must find someone to kill me. And get this, with an axe. But I think " Hmm, best get some crisps at the garage first " This was almost a light hearted decision. I felt no fear and was completely ready to go through with this.

Now I left the house thinking " So how do I get an axe? I'll find someone who'll do it. Maybe on the way home from the garage. Maybe theres an axe in a shed somewhere and then I can find a random guy who will cut my head off "

I got ready to leave the house, eyes like marbles. Thank the LORD my boyfriends brother spotted me and insisted on coming along. Having being drunk only twice in my life by this age, never taken drugs, he knew this was something else altogether and made sure we got there and back with no hitches.

Needless to say, I stopped taking them the next morning. I can't even describe to you how much SENSE that plan made to me. It was literally like the only thing that could help, according to my thoughts. Nevermind feeling suicidal, I was set on being beheaded by an axe.

Now I wonder if this article suggests something as dark as that!!

( PS: Lost all the extra weight and went down to 6.5 stone in the end )

Edit: Ok, the article is better!

Anything labeled creepypasta is fiction. It's meant to be creepy for the reader. Just google for creepypasta if you don't want to sleep.

That was creepy. If you want to check out another sleep experiment check out the blog of steve pavlina. He has recorded and blogged blogged about that for almost each day. I don't recall the term but it was just a 20 minutes sleep every 4 -5 hours and it worked for him.
