I've recently been asked by a relative from Moscow to help promote his site on russian search engines like yandex and rambler. I was wondering if anyone here knows if the same tactics apply. Would senuke and scrapebox have the same effect on the russian search engines as it does on others? If anyone knows of a russian seo forums where I can learn more specifics it would be greatly appreciated. Any advice on the topic is more than welcome.
Thanks.

ok, so I found something, in case anyone has similar questions in the future here's a russian equivalent of bhw: seocafe dot info

The main russian search engine is yandex, I don't think you should bother with rambler. The biggest forum is http://forum.searchengines.ru/ its not completely BH though. I don't have experience with russian promotion and can't advise you much.

Man russian BH is da shit. Pure c++ and PHP magic combined.
Rambler is kind of like Bing. Not much traffic but way more converting than Yandex. But only if the offers are intelligent. Tell your relative to look deeper (or you for that matter).

Thanks for the link siniy, looks promising. I got analytics on his site now and seems that even though all the search terms are in Russian about 40% traffic is still from big g, and about 30% from yandex, so this is a good sign as it seems like traditional methods should still work.
Monrox, really curious as to what you mean by c++ and php magic, would you care to elaborate?
