I bought a laptop today, dedicated to running SB and other software since my PC is too noisy to leave on overnight. I've got some mega SB lists that I'll probably be blasting to 24/7. My first question, is would this cause any bandwidth issues? I'm in the UK, using Virgin broadband. I'm pretty sure in the small print regarding unlimited downloads it says something about a fair usage policy. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to bandwidth, and I have no idea how much I will use by running SB pretty much constantly. I don't wanna get my internet cut off for the rest of my family. The second question is, is there any harm in leaving my laptop on 24/7? I'm pretty sure in the long term it will do some harm, but I don't want my laptop to burn out within a month. Any suggestions on this? Is there any software which minimizes processes, or should I get a cooler?
I got 3 computers with scrapebox installed I run them 24/7 from home So no problem, don't worry be happy Buy a silent laptop cooler with a builtin fan, I got 2 of these. If the laptop gets too hot it will auto shutdown. It also depends on your computer I use the latest samsung netbook.
You could have rather gone for a VPS than a new laptop. And usually VPSes have unmetered bandwidth so you dont have to worry about anything.
Get a VPS. Running SB from home connection is not recommended. Might get your Internet shutdown due to over usage of bandwidth.
You may not want to run SB on a latop 24/7. IMO, it will probably die before a computer running the same amount of hours. SB is a bandwidth hog. You will likely exceed 1TB after 1 month. If I had to choose, I would've went with buying a server than a laptop. What your laptop can do in a month is probably what a high spec server can do in a day. Remember time is money. That's just how I would have done things if I were in your position of course.
Yes, as soon as you can justify / afford it I would recommend getting a VPS. I've used Website Services Plus and xsserver.eu successfully. I've found that SB uses about 2TB of bandwidth a month which may be enough to get hassle from Virgin.
Well the thing is, I needed a laptop sooner or later anyway to run my eBay business. Plus I wanted to move all my IM software on to the laptop (SB, AMR, TBS, MS), so I can leave it running overnight. VPS seemed too expensive for what I want.
Using a laptop with SB works fine for me. I get rid of all the junk programs in the box and limit startup programs. I take out the battery and run on the power supply alone as this will not damage the lap but will extend battery life. I prop up the lap so that there is plenty of airflow underneath (You could use a cooling pad but I don't like them.) and I set up a very small electric fan to move air across the lap(s). I can run 50K in a couple of hours at most that way. Works well for me.
hellowmotow on here is offering VPS with 2 copies of scrapebox, one copy of senuke (hopeully upgraded to X soon), and TBS for $50/month. It's been working well for me. I have a copy of SB at home, but I would blow through comcasts limit of 250gb/month pretty quickly.
When you guys say you run it 24x7, did you find a way to script it so that one type of posting is finished and it automatically start another posting (whether it is in the same niche or not). So if you run it for x hours, and "posted" 1000/1,000,000 posts, what are the actual sticking rate? It just seems like a waste of time, if 99.999% of them do not actually make it into the blog you are blasting to, hence no eventual backlinks. I wouldn't mind spending money for servers/VPS, as long as I can justify that it is actually doing something productive, such as building real links, which in turn hopefully translate into $$$
Everyone's recommending VPS'. I know that's the smart option, but I was really going against it since I already have SB and I JUST paid for TBS last week.. so now I feel like I could've saved all my money! Maybe I'll just have to get hellowmotow's VPS and run two instances of SB on there, and one on my laptop. Three instances of SB blasting all night.
what about proxy ?? how you can get pROXY BANDWIDTH TO WORK 24/7 ?? i spent 10 G Bandwidth for proxy in less than 3 days and public proxy is suck for posting
I also use hellomoto's service,in fact I'm learning senuke so I haven't even used it yet lol but it's money well spent. He is quick and helpful can't ask for more than that, you get scrapebox, senuke and TBS for $50 a month, giveaway.I don't care it's not getting used right now I'm busy I'll get round to it.
GL with not getting a phone call of virgin I am pretty sure my Tiscali friends would shoot me up the a -hole if I did what I did on my vps on my home connection
