Running IM Tools

Hey B'Hats!

I wanted to run some IM tools like scrapebox, IBP, AMR and XGenSEO but I don't want to use them directly on my computer so I want to create a virtual machine and I could use some help.

Should I use VM Ware? If yes is it easy to set up? And how
What OS do you guys reccomend? Windows XP 32 Bit?
*Important* How much hardware should I dedicate towards this virtual machine?

My computer specs:
-AMD Phenom II X4 (Quad Core) running @ 3.9 GHz
-16GB of Corsair Vengance Ram OCed to 1666mhz
-1TB HDD, 7200 RPM
-HIS 6790 1GB Graphics Card

Alright how much of proccessor should I dedicate to it as well?

Don't waste time. Just do it...otherwise you will have to wait for answers every time.

I'm running a very similar system, but with 8gb RAM.

My host OS is Debian, and using VirtualBox I have one virtual XP machine using 1 core (@3.3ghz) and 2gb RAM. Running 4 instance of ScrapeBox is fine using fast Poster mode, but Slow Poster/Link Checker kills the CPU. Depending on how many cores you want to keep for the host's use, running the virtual machine as dual core would work much better I would think.

For a while I considered using multiple VMs, but a quad core struggles I think, so using one instance I install and update the guest's OS, then create snapshots in virtualbox so if it screws up, one click and I'm back to a fresh OS installation. In fact I take snapshots after I install certain applications, such as a firewall/AV etc to.

So to help try answer your question more directly, I would say go dual core, 3.5gb RAM ,using XP 32bit. To me that's a nice reliable setup


One popular SEO tool which I'm afraid I can't remember the name of (it's not ScrapeBox or AMR though, nor Market Samurai, theay are running fine for me) says it can't run or has trouble with VMWare and so says to use VirtualBox or VirtualPC.

Experiment and do it, you learn better from your mistakes than getting others to teach you.
