Running a Toplist still useful?

Hi,

Might be a bit old-school, but is running a Toplist still useful on a site that is round for the long term? I know I used to get a decent amount of traffic from being part of other people's Toplists and was thinking of installing a script on a new site of mine.

Are they still a good source of traffic and SEO (being the one who owns the toplist) or just a waste of bandwidth?

if you got CPM ads and a bunch of sites and have it all ranked by votes in or out I guess you can make some money

Depends on what your goal is. It's a link exchange, Google recognizes that and you will be penalized. Might be good for traffic, though.
