Hello fellow IMers. Do any of you run a successful forum and make money off of it with adsense? Or by any other means? Any tips on how to do it?
Thanks.

Well you first need to think of a niche that the focus would be focused on. For instance repairing bikes.. or something related to internet.. There is some much information on the web, so it wouldn't be easy to start a successful forum. But if you really want to then it has to be something interested so people would talk about it and share it.. That's really the only way to succeed online now, give something useful to community since there is already a lot of useless stuff..

Adsense really sucks on forums , gives very low CPC on forums . You can monetize with some other stuffs.

If it's not auto blogs, has unique content, etc.. you should be fine with adsense.

I have run a forum for over 5 yrs and it brings in steady income but not great income. Has about 1000 members but truthfully only about 50 of them are really active, everyone else just lurks. Get about 120 or so members logged in per day and another 400 guests. I make about the same from Adsense as actual local business banner ads that I run.

Personally I would not bother with any forums.. I used to run and own many... I mean it's good if you have a passion and can run one on the side.. but I know for a fact they don't convert well.. you'd be better off focusing your efforts online in a different area of IM.. but hey I could be wrong.. it would not be the first time..

I own a gaming forum with over 550,000 registered users and all I did was place AdSense under all 1st post in every thread. This generated around 900$ per month.

adsense don't pay much on forums i heard but with a lot of visitors you can get some money

I honestly don't think Adsense will pay much for a forum. Although, there may be alternatives which pay more; hopefully somebody more experienced than myself will suggest some.

In my white hat experience forums are hard to monetise - you might be able to use several CPM advertisers (once a user has viewed several impressions from one advertiser and they aren't paying for more, switch to another), but CPC doesn't work well - forum users are pretty ad blind.

Selling memberships is the way to go in my opinion.

I've seen a few forums start charging for memberships once they get a good following. Probably not a bad idea.

How about adding forums to an authority site (that is being built) that includes a targeted CPA product? Does the forum 'stickyness' bring more income and more people finding the website at large through the forums (searches and friendly referrals) or is it more trouble than it's worth?

Bro, RSS feed, auto post to certain categories.

Than connect your forum to google sitemaps.

You will receive guaranteed traffic from the search engine.

The whole "Adsense Pays Very Low for forums" is not true! I get 1$ clicks all the time on my weightloss forum!

Thats very true. You cannot put all forums in same basket. However the niche does play a vital role to decide the actual value of the adsense pay.
