Rumor: Google Rolling Out "Google Me," Their Facebook Killer, Very Soon

Well this is kinda wacky. Citing a "very credible source," Digg founder Kevin Rose tweeted that Google is preparing to release "Google Me," a service intended to go toe-to-toe (face-to-face?) with Facebook.

It's like Google stalking, but official, and thus marginally less creepy!

Google Buzz, their most recent foray into social networking, was not a resounding success and I imagine there's some lingering skepticism about Google's ability to actually keep all of its users information on lockdown.

Then again, they already know just about everything there is to know about you, so maybe it'd be easier to forget Facebook altogether and just click a button in Gmail that says, "Yes! Cull your extensive records to make a "Google Me" profile in my best image, selectively including the photographs and personal interests likeliest to get me laid."

I'm kind of confused about what this is. Is it a social network? Because doesn't Google already have Orkut?
 
How many other failed social networking type features has Google implemented within the past year alone? :banana:
 
From a strict marketing perspective we all hope it's gonna be more successful than orkut or buzz, right? ;)
 
I bet it will be like Buzz, an Epic fail.

Google can't make consumer web products. Its a tech company, not a consumer web/media company.

All their forays in this space have been quite shitty, IMO
 
I really hope they get somewhere close to facebook... so we have two sites to bank off.
 
I'm not Google hater, actually I find it as one of the best companies out there that doesn't just take from community but gives back to it.

But I'm more to believe that Facebook will release a Google killer sooner than Google would release a Facebook killer
 
Who remembers the google wave hype?

I hope they go head-to-head and and offer compeitive CPC prices for its advertisers. :)
 
I hope this is true for all the same reasons everyone else does, but killing facebook would NOT be easy even for google. Most people have all their friends on there already, it would be tough to get them to migrate all that over to google, and unless it offers some nice new features I doubt they will have a good reason too. Lets hope for the best though, maybe they will design their social network with blackhat marketers in mind.
 
No one give a damn to f*king google.. whatever they launch they ll fail.. Google Wave is already fk*ed. Google can only buy things and operate they don't have guts to launch new things and get success.
 
I dont know what they are planning to do with this, I can see it causing huge problems with SE for specific names. I can even see down the track Google blocking Facebook if such a site goes ahead.

Its like what Facebook is doign with search at the moment.
