Is there literature I can read about how to protect myself when purchasing an account?

I was thinking at the least, I should have them run me through a screenshare to show that everything works and then have a third party arrange the escrow?

The general rule is you should look at the reviews and how long the BST has been running.

Long standing sales threads with good reviews are unlikely to sell you crap. Make sure to read the latest reviews, not just the early ones.

Can you help me explain what BST means? I'm potentially purchasing an account from someone I found off of reddit, and I know nothing of the guy. Is escrow normally used in these cases?

BST means BuySellTrade and it's what we call sales threads here on BHW.

Chances are you'll get scammed by this guy on Reddit. I used to trade cryptocurrencies there years ago before exchanges were big, 7 out of 10 deals were scams.
