Hey guys, I'm about to order a .ru extension.. because I have to. It's the only extension available and I need that bulletproof host.

If I make an English site etc., will it still be harder to get it high in Google intentionally?

Well it's not like the world revolves around the US. How about the rest of the world? Or does it count for Europe too. I guess so :/

It's not bad for SEO. In fact, no TLD is - otherwise what is the point of it being available in the first place?
Getting a .ru will only mean you will rank more easily in the native country of the TLD - in this case Russia. You can still rank in the US, but it's not worth the extra effort IMO.

.ru is as good as any other tld extension

I see .ru and others rank above .com/.net for same keywords

Yea i see .il domains are ranking better .com/.net so there is no problem .ru represent russia may choose .il very less people now .il is tld of israel..
;) So if you want to do different do it completely different but there is still nothing wrong .ru.. lot of US people visiting sape.ru lol so its fine..

I would not go for it if I want to rank internationally (outside Russia).
You'd better tell why do you think you need a .ru domain. In most cases there's no actual need for that, also it can be not so bulletproof as you think, it all depends on what you want to do. You can PM me to talk about this.

You will have a harder time ranking in the US, you can try setting your sites location to the US in google webmaster tools, that can help.
