Hi everyone,

I’m planning to participate in the Bitcoin Puzzle challenge, which requires intensive computational tasks. I’m currently debating between the RTX 3090 and RTX 4080 for this purpose.

Some aspects I’m considering:

  1. Computational Power: Does the RTX 4080’s newer architecture give it a significant edge over the RTX 3090 for solving cryptographic puzzles?
  2. Memory Requirements: The 3090 has 24GB of VRAM compared to the 4080’s 16GB. How important is VRAM for running large datasets or algorithms related to the Bitcoin puzzle?
  3. Energy Efficiency: Since this involves sustained computations, is the 4080’s efficiency a game-changer compared to the 3090?
  4. Cost-Effectiveness: Considering the current market prices, which card provides the better value for such computational tasks?
If anyone has used either card for similar challenges or has insight into which might perform better for these kinds of tasks, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks in advance!

For Bitcoin puzzle solving, I would go with the 4080. It's faster and uses less power than the 3090. Though 3090 has more VRAM (24GB vs 16GB), you don't really need that much memory for Bitcoin calculations.

The 4080 is also cheaper right now at around $949, while the 3090 costs about the same. 4080 runs cooler, which is great since you'll be running it for long periods.

Just make sure your power supply can handle it. 4080 needs about 320W of power.
