Whats the difference?

I see that lemonarian.com say to ping the RSS feed, and I have also read that Howie says RSS Feed submit and Ping the URL.

Whats the difference here?

Would it be better to Ping the actual URL and Submit the RSS feed? What is the differnce Pinging the RSS Feed URL? Why would you do that instead of just Pinging the URL of the site?

The difference is that you are pinging different locations. Ping you URL to URL sites and search engines, and then ping your RSS feed to RSS agregators and, directories, and search engines.

Yeah, what revit said. Just use Howie's rss submitter, and use pingomatic. pingomatic pings urls and the rss feed.

I guys, thanks for the reply. I use RSS Submit to submit my RSS feeds to, and I use pingler to Ping my URLs. Do I then need to Ping the RSS feed url? Im getting confused a little. I dont quite understand why you would Ping a Feed URL. Should that be done?

sorry if im being thick, just like to clarify

A webpage and a RSS feed are two different things.

Since they are 2 different things, when you ping, you are pinging different types of sites.

Example:

Your Website: Website pinging pings associated sites specifically for websites

Your RSS: RSS pinging pings associated sites specifically for RSS feeds

so its good practice to ping your site mysite.com and also ping the RSS feed url, mysite.com/feed is that correct?

Yes, that is correct if you want to get noticed. You will gain higher notice quicker (litterly an hour or so) compared to sites that don't ping.

thanks, Im glad I asked as I havent been doing this.

I'll get straight on it
