Hello there people,

I am starting this thread to keep motivation up and track my progress. I am quite new to IM, I found BHW 6 months ago and that's where it all started. I have tried a lot of methods, some failed, some made a bit of money, but nothing sustainable. I have a background in graphic & web design, self taught. I started a Journey thread with Amazon affiliate, but quickly realised it's not my thing.

I have two websites for making money online at the moment:
  1. eCommerce Shopify website
    Will try and rank and make sales with SEO. Competition isn't the best, so long term it should make some sales. It's a waiting game at the moment while BLs are getting indexed and what not.

  2. "Services" site
    To get sales I will try classified ads, bulk email and other stuff. I won't talk much about what this site is since I want to keep it a secret. It doesn't make sales often, but when it does it's approximately $2000 in profit and I can do it all from home. I am gonna try some marketing stuff with this site, no SEO since it just won't work well with it.. I think, I will look into it more later. Two sales a month with this site and I would be golden.
What I've done on the eCommerce:
  • Created logo and branding for eCommerce
  • Created social media accounts for eCommerce
  • eCommerce connected to domain and set live
  • Full on site/page SEO with lots of original/quality content (some still needs re-editing)
  • 100-150 backlinks in various forms
    Hopefully some sales from my service site can bring in some budget for backlinks.
I have gotten 60 hits on the eCommerce via Google

No sales yet though. But hey, it's been two weeks - Patience.
I have never tried ranking a site before (except my old journey with an affiliate site that was up for 2 weeks). I learnt what SEO meant recently, and I've read and studied it for 2 months so, I am not a pro on it.

I have some leads for my other site, but most clients always fall through. They're interested, ask questions, then bolt. Will update with how my marketing shit works for this one.

Sounds like a nice plan and strategy. I would remove those 25 PBN's from your list though. Keep up the good work and good luck!

Thank you, I hope so.

What do you mean, remove links from my thread start or remove the links pointing to my site?
 
No, i just wouldn't use PBN's at all next time as they could get your site penalized too easy nowadays.

Ahh right, I got a bit confused there haha. I did not know that about PBN's. What do you use for ranking?

I am a bit worried I have gotten penalised as my site dropped on Google like a stone two days ago.. Fuck me.
I mean, the site is fresh and I am assuming that the backlinks hasn't indexed yet, but still. Something happened, as I was ranking 35 for a KW and now I am not even on top 100.

Maybe it's the normal fluctuation in Google, but I am still worried.

How do I know if my site has been penalised?

For ranking I use a lot of link diversity and reverse-engineering on my competition. Some keywords don't need a lot of link building if your content is good quality.

Update: Nothing to update. My eCommerce site won't rank. If I search for my site name, example if my site is "fuckingcunt-tshirts.com", I Googled "fuckingcunt t-shirts" and my damn Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest page is above my actual eCommerce website.

There is only one other site that actually has content on the site in this niche, the rest just has products and no text content. And I still can't even reach top 100, even on long tail KWs, and lets just say it's not high competition.

I have approximately the same amount of content as #1 ranking site right now. I would guess at 8.000 words on the site. The other sites ranking from #2-#8 doesn't have any content what so ever, just products listed.

SEO takes time, I know, but fuuuuuuck me.

I have only done SEO for this site, no advertising. I am absolutely useless when it comes to Social Media, I hate everything about it and I have wasted so many hours on different projects with social media without anything to show for it. I remember with my old eCommerce getting a ton of people messaging me asking for free products in exchange for a "shout out" because they "love my products" , sigh.. But no sales. So I have given up on trying to advertise/getting sales with social media.

I do use my Instagram account associated with my site, but I get like 5 likes per image.. disgrace.

I have thought about social media ads, but I don't know.. I have lost money there too, with no sales. Tried some teespring/teelaunch methods a few months back.

I was just now setting up a pop-up window asking for email in exchange for a 10% off code on the homepage, but no rush really, since I have 0 clicks from Google anyway - meaning no traffic whatsoever.

Nice! I've recently made a shop too for digital products. I don't have such a specific strategy because I think it's a difficult public.

Did you look any other competitors with similar or related topic? What do they do?

If you want short terms results, you should get better your social media marketing rather than SEO. If you buy ads, you should study first your audience, try to track real interested people.

But well, it's about trying what's the best for you and in what you're best.

Yes I checked out my competitors before I started my shop. My main KW has a difficulty of 21 on KWfinder, AKA "easy". I know that content is important, so I made sure to add a fuck-ton of content under my "collections". It's quite hidden, but gives my pages a lot more content than just uploading products.. It's too empty like that. My main competitor has done exactly what I am doing, adding a lot of content underneath the collection pages, if that makes sense. He/She has a Shopify store and is outranking everyone else.

I am not trying to outrank the #1, but the #2 and the rest are shit content wise and I would love to outrank them. Their backlinks are alright, but no content, just products.

Yea I know, you are absolutely right. SEO is definitely long term! My site hasn't even been up for a month yet, so I should relax.

I should probably look into ads, problem is I have no budget to play with. :rolleyes:

Yeah you are probably right. However, for my search term out of the top 10 there are 8 eCommerces. The first one is a Shopify store. So, it must be possible to outrank them, or at least rank on the first page.

I hope..
 
Good luck OP, Concentrate on your keyword research and traffic for your e-commerce site you would get results.
There are many ways to get effective results through eCommerce try them out.
Main thing is traffic for your site.

Yea, when I started IM and all my damn e-commerces, I always failed on the most important factor: Traffic

Something I have learnt since I started: You will fail, several times. And then, after you have failed 10 times, you will fail again. And when you have failed again, you will fail even more. But then, after all those fails and misfortunes, you will fail again. And then maybe, you will succeed. You will get beaten down, then you gotta get up. A 100 times. But you have to keep trying.. over and over and over again.

Or maybe I just suck at this. IM vs me, 100-0. But giving up isn't an option.

  1. I have some questions regarding backlinks. My domain automatically redirects to "blabla.com" when typing "http://www.blabla.com". My backlinks are targeting the www. version and I have read that Google treats this like two different domains.
    So, are my backlinks now useless since they are targeting the www. version?

  2. I registered my domain 18 days ago, and it says my domain age is 18 days even though it was first registered in 2011. I thought the domain age would "stay" when buying an expired domain. Not true?

Would appreciate if anyone know the answers! Thanks in advance.
 
Okay, I made a sale with my "digital service site", over $2k. Will use some of this for Facebook Ads. I hate everything that has to do with social media, but I don't want to rely completely on SEO. Will study Facebook Ads from now on, I got my hands on some courses from BHW download section. There is some valuable content there for targeting your ads, I have learnt a lot. Will be some trial and error, but I got some coin to invest with now.

Anyway, my plan:
  • Invest some more in SEO. More link & anchor diversity.
    Spend some money for my eCommerce FB page & Instagram. I hate Facebook and Instagram so much, but I need way more likes/followers. A few hundred is not enough.
  • Check current content on my eCommerce and add some more. (home page has 3500 words, decent for an eCommerce(?), but I want to double it)
  • Read, read and read some more about Facebook Ads.
  • Split-test $5/day FB ads, when I've read & "studied" enough.
  • Spend some money on ads for the digital service site. One sales was luck and took 2 months. I need to know if it's viable, if no sales with ads I will terminate the site.

I'm pretty sure I found a niche in my niche (Inception) which could work great with FB ads and a product from my current eCommerce. I have scouted out some great targeting for FB ads (Pages with the exact demographic and people I want), I will definitely try a $5/day test with this soon! I feel like there is a possibility to make a positive ROI with FB ads for once, haha. But again, I will read more about Facebook ads first. Read read read.

SEO will be a long term goal, position #2 shouldn't be impossible.. #1, a lot harder. Depending on the KW of course.

Money phone, you will be mine. The bumpy road continues though, of course! Time for fail number #325, but that's a part of the process. Learn and keep going.

Following your journey thread and I am very interested in the services site you are using. I'm starting my own ecom store, but I never though about doing a service through that where main costs would be for ads. Good luck!
