For those who’ve tested it recently, do you still see situations where the risk makes sense, or is white/gray hat just a better long-term play now?

It depends on the niche you target and business model you have. Sometimes there are short terms niche where brand reputation doesn't matter. All that is matter quick money. Sometimes you need long time brand reputation. So both has their own use cases.

The black hat seo is risker than earlier due to more frequent core updates, improved spam detection, and AI-driven ranking systems. But still Black hat lovers use it for their short term goal. While other move towards white/grey hat techniques to protect their sites from penalties and deindexing. White/grey hat seo offer more stable path in search engine.

Black-hat SEO delivers fast results, and in highly competitive niches, it’s often the only way to compete. Black-hat SEO always carries risks, but it seems to be the choice of many SEO practitioners.

More frequent core updates? Nah. There were 3 named updates in 2025, there were 9 in 2023. 'Google Update' is just the standard excuse used when something starts losing ranks and the SEO doesn't know why. Google will always be updating, it will never be 'stable' - it's not an excuse to not do Black Hat SEO.

That's not what I'm seeing. Loads of old spam filters seem to have been turned off completely, especially around aged domains, footer/homepage links, page freshness hacks, etc. They've most likely moved these compute resources over to AI, but not for any filtering.

Imo, Black hat still works for churn-and-burn

If you need stable income or brands, risk isn’t worth it; if you accept losses and fast cycles, the reward can still make sense
