Righthaven is SUING Autobloggers

If you check out the DailyPaul, you will see they withstood RightHaven's attempt to sue them. If you check out Righthaven, Obama, and particularly his wife has huge connections to this firm. They go after a lot of Conservative and Libertarian sites and their owners, trying to shake them down.
A judge recently blocked a whole bunch of their attempts, citing little evidence to their case.
If you ever have any problems with Righthaven, talk to Mike Nystrom who owns the DailyPaul, he will tell you what you need to know to defend yourself from Righthaven. There are also some searchable threads on the DailyPaul about this event.

Thanks guys. Yeah, out of the blue, I get e-mails from newspaper reporters investigating them, I'm like, duh? Wha? Who? Me?! One of the reporters attached the lawsuit for me, which I never even got. So I've faxed that to my lawyer. It's all over an autoblog post about, get this, an article asking for Prayers for our Troops. Like, you'd think any decent person would want that to go viral.
Keep the suggestions coming, and take my advice, turn off the RSS feeds for now! I'm currently spending the day deleting, deleting, deleting! "They" are lurking in the shadows!

Yeah alot of us know about them. They were made real public when they obtained (bought the rights) from denver post about a picture of a man being groped by TSA and then they sued every big blogger that had posted the picture when it went VIRAL. I mean thousands of people posted it, reposted in forums, etc... Alot of people payed the ransom money (aka extortion). The best tip is to not actually host it on your site but hotlink it and claim fair use. Simple. Even if you did host it, you can get by with fair use, but to make a strong statement in your case, always edit the file somehow showing some type of fair use. (criticism, review, parody, etc...)

There were credits and backlinks to every story, it's not like I said I wrote it. If newspapers are in trouble with circulation, etc, you'd think having some stories go viral with backlinks would be a good thing.... we all know the value of one way back links

Ya these guys and other companies like them wait for some bit of intellectual property to go viral, or simply become popular, and then they buy the rights to it and begin suing people.
From what I understand most of their cases don't go to trial, because usually when they do, the company loses, because they didn't own the copy right at the time it was published on the web sites. But, it's not their intention to go to trial, but to settle out of court, with people that don't know the law, or are not interested in fighting them...

OK, my Warrior Woman DNA has been activated... lots of Righthaven cases getting thrown out, people getting their legal fees awarded back, etc, etc. Discovering the "Righthaven Victims" underground. Yes, they do seem to go after political activists, but not just conservative or libertarian.... more left wing truth seekers have been caught in the net too, like Democratic Underground. I'm neither, just trying to earn a living, and yes, trying to do a little good in the world, helping people to help themselves.

Check out the newspaper blacklist. These are papers affiliated with Righthaven. I had Google and Yahoo newsfeeds, so that wouldn't have helped.
Just waiting for a review call back from my discount lawyer, I might have to call one of the law firms listed as already dealing with Righthaven. And I just got one Visa paid off I guess I'll have to get it out again.

If that were true then they would not be going after Democratic Underground and Huffington post.
Corporations go after money and run over whoever is in their way left or right.

This is another example of how harmful the unlimited, indefinite nature of "intellectual property" is to the free exchange of info in the public domain. The notion that a company that never created the content can just swoop in and buy indefinite control over its distribution is wrong, wrong, and just wrong.
