    Does anyone know what is up with Google removing the rich snippets from their results after the second crawl? At first the stars show up in the results but then they disappear, even though the stars show in the testing tool. To be honest, I'm manipulating the votes and ratings internally, Google has no way to verify if the votes are legitimate and if that's the issue then the question would be why did they display the rich snippets at first?

    I'm using GD star plugin for WordPress. Does anyone know what's going on?

    Of course Google has a way of verifying if they're legitimate

    How is that? I don't see any way they can verify that, it's altered in the database and before publishing so it must be something else.

    If you can provide the url of your site then it would be much more easier for us to understand that situation. I am not totally clear about your post.

    More proof G is getting into the plugin folder and having a look around.

    Although, it is strange that they dont kill the stars on the first crawl.

    For all new posts that you make the post gets indexed with stars and then loses the stars on the 2nd crawl? Or at some point the stars just stop showing?

    When a user comes to the site and casts his vote, the data is stored in the database. Then the plugin presents the data to the search engine. I see no way there the engine can verify if the data is legitimate. Do they count the amount of visitors against the amount of votes? It's almost the same actually, I just jacked it up a bit. I actually disabled voting for the public so it's users only. And analytics is disabled for logged in users..

    Well Im using a way spammier review star plugin, and the site I just recently put it on has all the stars on the posts in the serps right now. I just pinged one of the urls to get it crawled for a second time to see if the stars will disappear.

    How long until the stars disappear once it is recrawled?

    I don't have exact numbers but I'd say about 1-2 weeks for me. The domain is more than a year old and posts get indexed immediately after publish, with the stars..

    Ok I will keep an eye on my posts then.

    I dont know how they could tell if the stars are fake or not the way you are doing it. The plugin I have just puts some code in the footer and I get 5 stars on every listing in the serps. Way fake, but its working right now.

    Google can verify by looking for a reputable source that your stars are derived from. If you're not linking to a Google Places page, with actual reviews, or Trust Pilot or whatever, then your stars will look suspicious.

    How vigilant they are with you might be dependent on the niche you're in, how competitive it is, whether you've been reported previously for manipulating the ratings, what plugins are installed on server, your backlink profile and whatever else.

    I would think Google have some checks in place to monitor something that can be so easily manipulated.

    you must rate that GD star rating to get it appear at search engine...but if in the snippet tools it already appear, then it would be must appear (maybe later) in SE

    Ok, my site just lost the gold stars yesterday. So about a week and a half and the stars are gone.

    Has anyone figured out a solution to this yet?

    This is strange, I looked up a few products found on Amazon and they didn't have them.

    Using Blogger i added a fake star rating and review by adding a few lines of code to my HTML.

    So if you go to the Rich Snippet Testing tool and click the PRODUCTS link on the right it gives you an example about an Office Star Desk chair.

    http://www.google.com/webmasters/to...r-Grid-Deluxe-Task-Chair/2605023/product.html

    Now if you scroll down that same page you see this line 2nd from the bottom:

    Item1
    Type: http://schema.org/aggregaterating
    ratingvalue =4.6
    reviewcount =181

    So i went to the link for the Desk Chair and then right clicked and looked at their Page Source. Then i hit CTRL+F and typed in "ratingvalue" and it showed me the code they used:

    <!-- ZONE - ProductDetails - END --> <div id="mainCenter_ratingsSmall"> <div itemprop="aggregateRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/AggregateRating"> <img id="starImage" alt="Overall Rating" src="http://ak1.ostkcdn.com/img/mxc/stars4_6.gif"/> Rating <span itemprop="ratingValue"> 4.6 </span> <span class="ratingsSep"> | </span> <a id="readReviewsLink" title="Read Reviews" href="#custreviews"> <span itemprop="reviewCount"> 181</span> reviews </a> </div> <!-- /end #rating_ui -->

    I just got rid of some of the useless stuff, changed the numbers to 4.9 and 300 or something and put it on my site and it worked. So just find a page that IS working and look for "review" in their Page Source.

    good luck

    dave

    I'm not sure if it really has to do with the code. The rich snippets appear after the first crawl or after indexing but at the second crawl they just disappear.
