Reviving old expired domain with fresh content - expected results?

What happens in the following scenario:

- You bought an old expired domain, still with decent DA/PA, tens/hundreds of IBL's, not banned

- You decide to revive the domain with fresh content in the same niche as the original once was

- You gradually add high quality content on a constant basis.

Questions:

- Can this domain/site rise up in search results? Do you see it as a feasible project?

- Do you need to add some fresh links in order for this to work? (note, you probably should do that anyway)

- Have you done this before? Can you share your experience?

It depends on the purpose. For what you are going to revive it?

1. For PBN - If I am going to use it for link purpose, I will not do any link for it. Because I am buying this expired domain as it has already a good link profile. All I need to pass the link juice to my money site.

2. For Money site - If the domain is good and fresh and I am going to use it as a money site then the case will be different. I do add fresh content, building links to get higher rank in the SERP. Can this domain/site rise up in search results? You can't say it from the beginning. When you set up the domain and worked with it you will find it out yourself. If it has no bad history definitely it will rise up.
