Review post: should I link to Trustpilot?

Hi all, I'm making quite a lot of review posts and I've been wondering: since apparently linking to authority sources is a good thing in SEO, does it make sense for me to link to the Trustpilot page of the product that I'm reviewing, even though that Trustpilot page ranks on the SERP for my target keyword?

For example, I make a review post: "Hertz Review - Is it the best car rental company?"

I see that Hertz's Trustpilot page already ranks #1 for the KW "Hertz Review". Trustpilot is a trusted source after all, and they probably are not going to lose ranking anytime soon. So, instead of fighting a losing battle trying to steal the #1 spot from Trustpilot (good luck), wouldn't it be more clever to include a link to the Trustpilot Review page? That way, Google sees that I don't hesitate to link to authority sources, even if that means "shooting myself in the foot" by giving a link to a competing page.

In reality, I would never give a free link to my competitors, but linking to Trustpilot or to Wikipedia is not like linking to a direct competitor such as a blog or a niche site.

Does that make any sense? Has anyone tried this approach?

Why would you, in your own words "shoot yourself in the foot". Sites like these get a huge boost because everybody thinks they need to link to authority. The benefit is debatable.
