Reverse engineering a website

Can anyone point me to a thread already discussing methods used to reverse engineer a website? Apparently I suck at using the search. Can't find any.

Looking mainly for determining a websites keywords they are most likely getting traffic from, backlinks, and possible sources of their traffic. Any techniques you like?

Or any good tools to help with this type of research?

Compete is one of the best tools.. a bit pricey if you are just starting out but def worth it. - Dismantle your competition, their revenue streams, keyword strategy and which ads are pulling in the most bank.

I mainly use two services I highly recommend.

For keyword research on competitors for both organic and paid http://www.semrush.com/

For backlink profiles I recommend any of OSE, ahrefs or Majestic.

Reverse SEO is where it is at.
