Depends upon if its your 1st time getting it, or you're being considered a repead offender.
It usually starts out with just a few hours thing to even lasting for days, depending on that.

Yeah that is correct! It's supposed to disappear on its own after 2-3 days.

Thank you. May I also ask whether during this 24–48 hour waiting period, I should log out or do anything else (such as changing the password, clearing the cache), or is it best to leave the account as is and not touch anything?

It would be better not to make any activity on Instagram, like uploading videos, posts, or stories, otherwise it can lead to a couple of weeks.

i dont think you need to no, usually its an app-based block. at least from my experience its 24 hours, sometimes 3 days. in worst cases 1 week. so log out then clear app data and cache and 24h later log back in and see what happens. its recommended not to do any actions for 24 hours after the login, perhaps only scrolling. not even likes. if 3 follows goes well you're probably all clear.

Usually it clears within a few hours to a couple days, but if the activity keeps getting flagged it can last longer, so just slow down actions for a bit and let it reset.
