Restored expired domain + link placement

Placing a link into article, that's not exactly related to your money site makes it borderline worthless. Not too different from Sape for example. Create a new one.
Also, my personal advice is, not to recreate sites that are not niche relevant to your money site. Kills the contextual relevancy of the site. Many people do it though, but I personally do not like that.

@Nargil Let's say that the recreated expired domain is niche relevant, both backlink profile and content. What would be better, to put the link in the homepage, with very little content but more authority, or to place the link in a new page, with targeted new content, and that is linked from the homepage?

I do not like to overdo it with homepage links. IMO it's one of the most underestimated footprints. Save homepage links for the most powerful domains, use inner pages for the rest. That's perfectly natural, even though a bit weaker. However, with right interlinking, there's not that much difference.
