In my early trading, I hated sideways markets. They felt boring, so I forced trades inside choppy ranges. Predictably, I lost money trying to extract meaning from noise. The market wasn’t moving, only my capital was. Restlessness became my hidden enemy in consolidation phases.

Learning to respect sideways action gave me freedom. Instead of trading noise, I used the time to plan, review journals, and prepare for when momentum returned. Sideways markets became opportunities for growth, not punishment for inactivity.

Now, when charts stall, I don’t fight the stillness. Patience during consolidations has saved me more capital than any winning trade could. Sometimes the best edge is knowing when not to play. Do you trade chop or wait for real momentum?

I used to hate chop too until I realized flat periods are the cheapest risk management tool.
