Respect My Authority! (Journey)

I can have a look and give you some feedback if you want. I also have a journey and I'm using the X theme also.

Hey testyy,

I'm using the Ethos stack for magazine type sites. On the post settings I have it checked off so that the featured image is used on the index page, with the skinny image.

I love how it looks. Like on the home page the way you get to individual articles is to click on the featured image which has the post title in it. The issue I have is how it looks a little funky on a lot of images that don't have the best resolution. It kind of zooms in on the image so that it looks pixeled. Does that make sense?

I need to figure out how to make those images look better, or maybe improve the resolution somehow?

Not sure if that makes sense.

Try adding this inline css background-size: initial;
If you have a legit copy you should ask on the member forum. The support is always great.

This was something I did to a content band, not a post image. I'm running renew and I'm not really knowledgable about Ethos.

Yeah I have a legit copy. I'll check out the forums (duh!). Thanks man.

Seems like you had a great start for the new year! Great to see the site coming along nicely and just keep churning out the content (100 in a month is no small feat).

What's going on with the forum at this point?

Thank you very much. Yeah 100 was a challenge because I spent a lot of the first month on design and technical issues. My main writer also got sick on me, so I'm guessing that around 70 or so of those pages were written by me. I just can't devote too much time to writing for it because the offline biz takes up most of my time. I do think it will be a lot easier from here on out though.

The forum.... makes me sick! I had to pull it until I get this crap figured out. The seo plug I have for it just isn't working. It makes the whole thing crash. Without the plug I end up with really ugly links. I need to spend a day getting that fixed. It's just aggravating because I am technology challenged, and I get frustrated and just move on to something else. I need to focus on it and fix it, or hire someone to help me. I have 3 people in the field that have volunteered to write a lot on it for free, and I have a source for some forum posters for hire. This will actually be my primary goal for month 2- fix the forum and get it going strong.

Day # 29-31 Update

1- There are 113 pages on the site now. I still have a handful to fix up to schedule. I'm getting that Dragon program to help me make a lot more/go faster. I know I can crank out at least 3 a day (maybe a lot more, when I find time), and the writers give me 45 a month, so I should have no problem with adding 130-150 pages a month from here on out. It could end up being a lot more, but I will never go below 100.

2- I ordered the big press release. I'll share the results next week. I'm excited/nervous.

3- I put AdSense on a few of my offline business sites. These are the ones that I really don't need anymore. To my surprise they have been making around $10 a day. I'm getting around 40 cents a click on them. It's kind of like finding free money. I should have done that a year ago.

4- I bought a plugin on BHW that allows me to make a ton of comments on my site. It's amazing! There are a few hundred comments now, sprinkled all over the site. I can back date them, or schedule them to happen in the future. It makes my little site look really popular. It looks like real people have been engaging all over it. They talk back and forth, and it seems natural. Love it!

Next goal that I must finish this month- fix the f'ing forum!

Sounds like everything is going pretty well. I might have a look at that comments plugin myself.

You should get it Davids. It's so much fun. My favorite part is that you don't have to approve each of your schizo comments. It bypasses moderation settings. Definitely my best buy.

Thanks, I just ordered it and have it installed now and comments scheduled.

Ah right, so I can leave my settings the same - comments have to be approved, but the plugin will override that? If so, great.

Bingo!

Now with every post I make I go ahead and schedule some comments too. I'm surprised it's not more popular.

Day #32 - 33 Update

1- I have laid low on the site the last 2 days. I think I just posted 2 pages on it. I've been trying to make the page creation really random on it. Some days I post nothing, some just a few, and some up to ten. I like that, whether it really matters or not? I am also in the middle of writing two really long pages for the site myself. I think they will be in the 3k-5k word range. They compare a lot of similar products, and from my experience those types of pages get a lot of serp love.

2- I've been playing with Dragon. I have gotten a little better, but I need a whole day to practice with it. My offline business has had me working 16 hour days the last few days, so I don't really have any time right now. Hopefully Sunday....

3- The 2nd authority site (that my son is writing the content for) is coming along. I just look at it every other day to see what he's up to. He's doing really good. It's very possible to create 10k + pages for that site. There's just tons and tons of things to talk about. Long term, if I don't say "screw it", I think it's possible that it could really do well.

4- I know I tend to spazz, but I am itching to try something else so badly. I want to make a pure silo site. I've been reading about it for days. A guy here has a wp plugin that makes it easy ("webdeveloper" I think?), and the thought of doing it is driving me crazy. I have always wanted to make an extremely well structured site, where every single detail is blueprinted up front. I haven't put it on paper yet, but I can't get the picture out of my head. I believe that it will end up with around 150 pages, but I won't know for sure until I start mapping it. If I decide to give it a shot, I can create all of the pages and hire out the content creation to someone. I just want to see what it could do. It's a really damn tough niche, so I would probably end up paying quite a few $$$$ to get the links it would need. But who knows? It's on my mind....

5- On Link Pushing, I'm a little aggravated. I started with it over 2 weeks ago (I think?). Every day I go on it to see the chart showing the links it's making. I finally had my first push end yesterday. It gave me a report where I can actually go to the links. When I went there, 13 out of 16 were f'ed up. The sites were down, the links weren't hyperlinked, the image source links were broken, the account was cancelled, etc., etc. So I had been waiting for weeks to see the fruit, and it was gone (except for just 3). This was only on the first tier, so there's no telling what was up with the other tiers, as I was too bummed to even look. I contacted BTB for help. He referred me to his partner. His partner jumped on it this morning (I discovered the issue yesterday) and told me that he was fixing it. Where does that leave me? I really don't know. He said that if everything goes well over the weekend he will be fixing all of my pushes. Does that mean that I am starting over? Does that mean that I will be waiting another 2-3 weeks to see what will happen? I have no idea. Now don't get me wrong here. I'm not bashing the service at all. I'm just a fat, hungry kid that wants his sucker, and the sucker has been put away for a bit. This does bother me though. If my first link push came out like this, that scares me. I guess I will have to check every single link every month??? Sorry for the bitching and complaining. /rant I personally like BTB and respect him a ton, whether he reciprocates or not. I just want it to work- that's it.

6- I'm still waiting on the PR rough draft. I've been too busy to mess with it, so I'm glad they haven't sent me anything yet. I'm hoping that it goes live early next week. I know this sounds stupid, but I really am nervous. I have a lot of expectations with it.

7- I need to start this one with an apology. I apologize for being a dick, but I saw something on here last night that made me ponder. I very popular seller here started a thread offering to help a lot of people. It seemed truly honest and generous. He was widely praised for being a good guy. The masses flocked to him. Two days later he started a service offering almost exactly what he was doing to help people. The thousands that are watching his generosity can now buy his packages to do the same on their own. There are a few ways to look at this. For starters, if his service/package is really good, then why shouldn't he capitalize on the increased attention, as he is offering something of true value? Then again, doing something that appears pure, so that you can later make money off of the suckers, bothers me. Regardless of the intentions or the effect, as a marketing hustler you have to respect the shit out of him. BHW is no different than DP or WF. It's full of suckers. The issue on BHW is that you have to be a little smarter about how you bait the dummies. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the bait he created is pure genius.

I write too much on here. Sorry.

Day #34 Update

1- The PR is live. It's on Yahoo News and a bunch of others. I think it takes a week or two for it to fully spread. I'm really impressed with the quality of the written PR, the distribution of it, and the actual service itself. I am really hoping to end up with a butt load of backlinks from some really good sites. Very exciting!

2- I started cranking up the number of articles being posted on the site again. I posted a few yesterday and plan on putting up 10-20 this weekend.

Have a good weekend.

Hey,

Are links from your PR do f0llow or nofollow?

Also are you getting any traffic prior to PR release?

Hey,

I'm not a pro at press releases. This is actually my first paid one. I paid $230 or something like that.

The press release has 3 links in it I believe. The company sends the pr to the associated press, a bunch of sites, the major online news sites, etc. The expectation is to have the article syndicated to 1k+ sites (hopefully way more).

The links in the pr are just links. Whether the individual sites that carry it use do or no follow, that's up to them. It will end up being mixed, which I think is natural.

Traffic prior to PR? Minimal. The site is on a fresh domain that may be 6 weeks old or so. It has around 120 or so pages now. Roughly 20 social visitors a day and 20-60 organics from serps.
