Required - Quick Tip for Anchor Text

Hi

Sorry if this question has been beaten to death - I've been looking but can't find the answer.

If my main keyword is "widget" and I have quite a few links with the anchor text "widget" but don't want to have problems with certain google animals, would I be safe to dilute and use the anchor "blue widget" (among others relating to widget)? Would that be seen as sufficiently different? Or does the anchor have to be completely different so "sidebar tool element" should be used instead?

I appreciate that different anchors need to be used (including non-money terms) I'm just concerned that...

blue widget
green widget
yellow widget
widget with a budgie

All contains the word "widget" so can this be a problem?

I believe, non related keywords also need to use..
examples: read more, read here, please go here...etc
also your naked URL can also be your anchor

Thanks, Reeze - I appreciate that. It's just the anchor texts of the main keywords I'm concerned about.

I use the concept of 4,3,2,1 rule.

40% of the backlink will be generic anchor text like visit, visit to learn more, check this link, click here, read more, some names like adam, jack etc.

30% of the anchort text will be name of the website without www like if your website is www.wassup.com, then anchor text will be wassup

20% of the anchor text will be domain with www, like the anchor text www.wassup.com

and finally 10% of the anchor text will be the targeted keywords which you are focusing to rank.

Though the above method will take time, it will help to prevent the website to get hit from Google Penguin.

As you probably know, after penguin anchor text diversity is very important. You can use your variations but you should also include: URL, click, click for info, click for more, related site, visit website, read here, etc... Just make it look naturally, it means that range of anchor texts should come from different sites and link to your main site in a different ways.
Keep in mind, don't overdo it with main KW.

Oh, yes. As mentioned in my post I know that other, non money terms are required but the question is when I am using the anchor text that include the keyword, does having the money term repeated in the anchor texts cause a problem?

i.e.

blue widget
green widget
yellow widget
widget with a budgie

is widget going to get penalised for being repeated? Are the single words counted or the whole phrase?

Yes you can repeat but 10% of the total anchor text. Check thread #4 above.
