I've made good contributions to BHW during my time here and try to help out as many people as possible.

Can someone tell me how the points system works?

There are times when someone will give me a positive rep and the points do not increase and there are times that it will be +1, +2, or even +3. There may be something higher but that hasn't happened yet.

I'm not even sure how many points I contribute to someone's reputation if I give them one.

If they have high rep it will give you more points if they have low rep it will give you no points. Everybody starts out with the power to give 1 rep. I think your profile should tell you your rep power

Edit: it actually tells you your rep power on the homepage on the right hand side of the control panel section above the new posts, right across from the your avatar.

Ahh. Your right. I've seen the Rep 1 icon but did not tie it back to this.

Any idea what the structure looks like?
 
I have a rep power of +2 which means when I give rep you get +2 points.
 
wow, never knew about this thing. I though 1 is default for every one. Lemme check mine.

EDIT:I have Rep power of +4 :-)

yea and i'm adding one more thing, it's also affects your rep power if your a Very Important Person here or not, i'm not so my powa is not so big as yours for example :)

Reputation: 54" so of course you are more creditable and powerful technically ;-)
 
I guess my rep power will increase once I become a VIP.

Right now, I am thanked for 1 out of every 4 total post with a ratio of 1:1.

I wonder what HaRRo is and what it would take to get a rep from him. haha

I'm pretty sure its done by post count actually. +1 rep per 200 posts (I think).

Only difference with VIPs is that we can neg rep assuming we have positive rep in the first place (but it only takes off 1 point).

nope, i have rep powa 3+, carson has 4+, i guess you have 5+
it's something to do with our status (regular member or jrvip/donor?/exec vip...) and of course the amount of the rep

You have less than 600-800 posts (+3 rep), Carson has 800-1000 posts (+4). Nothing to do with Jr VIP.
 
Its depends on the join date, whatever i do i only can give +1 rep only :)

another parameter here, the join date, thanks jaerehan :p, it seems you're cursed with 1+ lol

i think it's based on distance. The near to US the lesser rep power :-)

The more rep you receive would give you more rep power, maybe?
