Reputation Management: Using Sponsored Posts...

There was a post here saying that you can use sponsored posts (with a lot of links pointing at them) to outrank a .gov site.

I'll be using the same sponsored post strategy to try to outrank the Consumer Affairs site.

Anyone else here use this method?

It seems like a good idea because you are giving the offending sites more, legitimate competition in the search results. For some sites, it seem as if all the Web 2.0's in the world won't outrank them.

For sure, but the trick isn't going after crappy domains for sponsored posts.

That's one of the biggest mistakes that reputation management companies/services make, is buying a generic sponsored post on a PR3 blog, that's full of ads and screams "paid post".

For this to be effective you need a high-quality domain that is legitimate and has content that ranks well. They'll often charge a butload for a post ($100+) but it's a fair trade-off considering it'll likely rank well out of the gate.

Be sure that they use an attention getting title as well, that way users from Google will click through to the blog post. That's the key as you are trying to divert traffic away from the bad listings. It's also wise to target a few keywods, like scam and what not so you can rank for those keywords as well.

There are other ways of doing this more effectively and with longevity. Easier ways also if you want to go totally blackhat.

What would those ways be? I've read just about everything there is to read on online reputation management. Everybody talks about buying exact match domains and Web 2.0s, but sponsored posts are rarely talked about because they can cost a lot of money. I believe you can attack a webpage with negative SEO, but I don't believe that's a good long term strategy.

there are much better ways than sponsored posts unless you are trying to save money or it's a VERY strong sponsored post. Think a little outside of the box and it will come to ya
