I consult on conversion strategies with an SEO company who provides reputation management. They have been very successful so far but they recently contacted me about a "problem listing" that no matter what they do, wont go away and has only moved up since they started. They say they have rotated through about 30 listings knocking everything off the front page, second and third page except this one bad listing that lives on a forum. I was told that the listing started at #6 on the first page and is now #1 on Google with no change to the page rank or number of links shown in Yahoo link directory. I have seen a lot of crap but never heard of bad listings moving up when sending links to everything but the bad listing itself. Any ideas? They are not even letting me give it a shot so they would not be interested in hiring another SEO firm, but If your strategy works I could probably get you some cash for the method. Btw, plan on keeping a good reputation here on BHW so if your method works for them I will pay you myself. Just to have it in my bag of tricks if ever needed...
    Thanks
    Philgood

If it's a forum then try to take contact to the owner. If it's a "fake" comment on a forum, can you try to contact a laywer to see what options you have to get i removed.

First when you have tired this option would I look at the SEO part.

I literally just posted an answer to a question similar to this on another thread so I'll post it in here as well:

Tough situation to be in, but your gonna need to get VERY creative here. Reputation management is tough, especially in your case, considering the bad review is on a .GOV.

Plain and simple you will not get anywhere building content to your own website. Google generally gives 1 SERP listing, and potentially 2 or 3 depending on if the internal pages are worth while enough. Adding more content to your own site isn't the answer.

You will need a budget here and a good one at that to push down a .GOV. Find popular pay per post services, these are services in which you can get a post on a popular blog/domain. There are also a ton of bloggers that offer 'sponsored posts' on extremely popular blogs that have incredible PR. You can find some for $200 - $700 ++ PER POST. Now whats important is to have KILLER content written about your site, with your business name as the post title and maybe even something catchy that will attract click throughs from the search engines. Click throughs are huge in gaining top spots in the search engine.

After getting roughly 10 or so of these, you'll need to perform an extensive paid link campaign and link building campaign to those blog posts that you just paid for. Don't even hold back here, if your business is truly worth it then cough up the money for a solid link building campaign for these blog posts that you just got. Go out and find some private link brokers that have incredible links such as PR6,7,8,9 homepage links. You can get some for around $200-300/mo. Buy one for each post that you just made, and a few if you can cough up the expense for a little while. Yes, this will be expensive but this method will work.

I'm speaking from experience here, I ran a $50,000/mo. reputation management campaign for a HUGE company that ended up getting shut down by the government. I won't name the company, but it turns out they were a huge scam. At the time, no one really knew it. We took the front page and cleaned it up using the methods I described in this post.

Wow this one is very easy, I'm surprised this reputation management firm doesn't know this technique since its one of the oldest and most effective. Since it's a forum you'll be able to register and post a reply. What you need to do is register, make a few posts on the forum, and then in that thread make a reply with an image that is hosted on your servers that is something simple and unsuspecting like a smiley face like this: :) Then just wait until its bumped back 10-20+ pages deep and change the image on your server from a smiley to a hardcore porn picture and then file a report with google that there is porn on their mainstream search results and they will manually remove it from appearing:

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/spamreport?hl=en&pli=1

Select "other" and write up some BS about how you were searching for stuff and the porn popped up.

I'm looking forward to my reward ;)

 the same principles can be applied here which is why I stated that I had taken that from another post I made in another thread.

Ok what do you mean "bad" listing? Are you telling me that it is a negative review about your company?

If it is, kinda funny that a reputation management firm can't manage their own reputation lol.

What you have to do is use scrapebox to post a bunch of comments to porn blogs. Make the link anchor/name for the links "Ch1ld P*rn" or something of that type. Then ping all the blogs like mad. It will be gone in a few days time.

Also the site you are referencing is not a forum as far as I can tell.

I have heard of that technique but it can also pump a page full of links in a good way, but bad for the client.

I have just suggested that they buy the clients name in the .com .net and .org but that's only 3 spots and they want to put his bad listing on page 3 or 4.

what kind of site did you think it was if not a forum?
    Thanks so much,
    Philgood

It's unfortunate that it's a closed forum. I did reputation management for a company a year or 2 ago as a consultant. I was able to get some complaintsboard results knocked out by posting and just spamming the company name over and over again along with some racial slurs. Basically <company name> <racial slur> <company name> <racial slur> - copy pasted about 4000 times until the keyword density for <company name> was so high google figured it was spam.

    Hold an SEO contest.

Offer a large prize on BHW or any other SEO forum out there to write a raving review of the company on their websites/blogs. The website that makes it into the top 3 get a $1,000 each. Or something to that affect.

This is by far the simplest and most effective strategy you can do. Not only does the top spots get taken, but everyone who enters will kick that forum post so far back it won't even be in the top 50; plus you get raving reviews from third party sites which makes the company look awesome.

I won a contest like this and won 10k for a Realtor who had the same name as a strippers mom. The strippers mom was in the news because her daughter was a government officials mistress/hooker. In the contest we obliterated NYT articles, WSJ and such.

You can pm me for details and I can help you setup the contest. Yes, I am new here to BHW, but I have been around the SEO block for a number of years.

Like the idea but not sure if the their client would be cool with a contest but i will keep you in mind for some movies that i will be launching if you are up for it. Are you using contest burner? PM me with some rates because i may have 3 different adult parodies that could use a contest or two.
    Thanks so much,
    Philgood

From the link you posted... I don't see a forum but a blog. typepad blog to be specific. Even though comments are closed I can post a comment.
    Code:
    http://lexicon.typepad.com/lexicon/2011/03/it-takes-a-thief-to-catch-a-thief.html
Look at the date/time of the comment.

The post button is disabled in the HTML. I used firebug addon in firefox. search for the button removed: disabled="true" and submitted my post. Comments seem to be autoapprove.

Na, I use social media and my contacts I've built up over the years. You don't need software to hold a contest, you just need to find the right people and target them through the channels they use to communicate.

I don't really charge to setup contests, I just thought it would be a good idea. If you wanted to hold a contest, find the communities related to your niche, i.e. forums, social media sites (reddit subreddits are great for this), and create a social buzz. I could help you create a buzz depending on what you wanted to do. If it's related to adult movies, you're going to want to hit 4 Chan and possibly niche websites with a lot of traffic where you can get a quick excerpt about the details.

my idea: try to get links same linked places as site - this work but take time that way links worth is same then add other links already added and in few months will work.

on other note your client has client who is that sh1t face d.a. ?

haha man that will be hard rep to get away because case not started and will get heated

over 3k cocaine cases he had put away so lot of people want his blood and we all know poor people cry more and doubt most put away by him are rich most east vegas people (not wrong with east vegas just more crime look spotcrime . com show proof)
