    Hey everyone,

I took on a reputation management project for a friend of mine who is running a pretty large company. Essentially, the strategy was to build a lot of properties, and press releases - and rank them above all the bad links. Here's the messed up part. We've been running this for the last month or so, and the negative link on google has been progressively growing higher and higher. It almost seems like every time I build a property, it pushes the link up a bit. When we started, the link was towards the the bottom of the first page, and now its at the second / third position. I have bought probably a dozen backlink packages from here (good ones too) and the link seems pretty stuck near the top. Also, keep in mind that the competition for the keyword is minimal (its a company name) sooooo I'm turning to BHW to see if anyone has suggestions or tips. (the bad link is from redflagdeals.com)

    Cheers! ;)

yeah, it's a pretty huge forum. the thread isn't actually about our company. its about a similar company. the problem is thanks to google using synonyms for search results...

I'd contact the forum webmaster and explain the issue and how business is being affected with the report about a company with a name similar to yours where it is mixed. They can either do some changes in page title and content (specifically meta tags) and after few days it should drip in the serps or else permanently remove the page.

You need to be generating new content as well.

And doing so on as many platforms that YOU control as possible.

It really depends on the type of business.

Mix up the properties. Mix up the types of links you are building.

And get the business mentioned in high value websites. So posting comments even on high PR blogs that don't allow links is a good thing.

Remember, the idea is to get the company *mentioned* in as many places as you possibly can.

So, stop link building. Start building content. Blogs, that mention the company name. Get the name in the papers or online news outlets. Even if it is just a cursory mention. The higher value those domains are, the better.

When you have a whole bunch of mentions, then you can try and game the linking to push some of them higher in the rankings.

Sorry for the double post ... if it is a thread that is still open in a forum that allows linking to images, then you are set.

A few posts here and there in the forum. Then one innocuous post in the offending blog with a link to a domain you control.

Let that sit for a while. Then replace the image on your servers with a really naughty one.

Then get someone to point out to Google that there is pr0n on that page, and they'll deindex it pretty quickly.
