Repurpose Whole Website Question

I have bought a non dropped domain at auction to use as a money site. This is the first time I have ever used such a domain. I usually just start on a brand new domain.

The old content is in a close but slightly different niche to what the new website will be about. Therefore I cannot just copy and paste the old pages from WBM. I need to have the articles rewritten to make them relate as closely as possible.

I have 160 pages that I need to have recreated. I then need to publish them also. As you can imagine this is very time-consuming.

My question is should I not make the site live until all 160 articles are published? Or can I just have the website live and slowly drip them in over time?

Why don't just restore the old content from waybackmachine for the 160 pages with one click...

Because its all news pieces which was shared from other websites. The niche is also slightly different.

So i need to create unique content and with a slightly different spin to make it fit into the new niche.

Every day you don't have a page its a 404 that might make the link drop and will alert search engines that the whole site is gone.
I'd say get the old content (or simple new posts) live then drop the new content over the top as you have it ready.

Thanks I'm gonna follow this advice.

I've currently asked the search engines not to crawl it and also installed a under maintenance plugin. Is this the correct move until all the articles are published?

Just think about it - assuming there is organic traffic you're going to have a 100% bounce rate - not going to help your rankings.
Under construction is definitely way better than a 404 or a 500 server gone message though.
