Good evening, everyone.
I'm sure you're all sick to death of these type of threads, but I'm making one anyway. For my part, this will be a way of tracking and reviewing my progress over time. More importantly, I'm hoping public exposure will help keep me more accountable.
I've been lurking and reading BHW for about a year or so now, and last month I started taking serious action to make IM a significant part of my life and income. Ultimately, I'd like to do this full-time. I do some freelance designing on the side, but my main income source is an unfortunately terrible Customer Service gig. I have come to the conclusion that my education level and work experience is not enough to land a position that will pay what I need to build a better life, so I must create my own.
I started slowly in the third week of January, using some of the tumblr techniques shown in other threads (search them them, there are plenty). Saturday I broke 2000 followers on the more popular of the blogs. I'm somewhere around week four. All in all, I'm fairly satisfied with it. I brought in about $7.00 last month with adsense - which isn't bad given that I didn't start until halfway through the month. I'm hoping to break $20 this month, maybe even $30 if it keeps growing steadily. I've taken a dip since the Tumblr update though, so we'll see.
I currently have two tumblrs running, with plans to start more in the near future.
(To people whouse Tumblr this way - when you make multiple blogs, do you try for different niches, or just make two or three in the same niche so you can recycle images?)
The primary reason for making this thread today however, is that I have begun a second project of a slightly larger scope. I just launched an affiliate site, with the intention of combining both on and offline traffic sources for sales. I don't know nearly enough about SEO to try to capture web traffic, but I'm playing with a couple methods to actively reach out to the target audience rather than passively hope for traffic via keyword searches and the like. One day, I'll have to learn this too, but for now I'll leave it be.
I've got about $40 invested so far in purchasing hosting, a domain name, etc. The site was finally completed and polished up tonight. The traffic campaign will begin tomorrow.
For now, today's tumblr stats:
Followers: 2255
Adsense revenue today: $0.30
Revenue this month: $6.50
Revenue to last month: $7.48
Once the traffic campaign is launched for the affiliate site, I'll start posting stats on that. Similarly, I need to try to scale up the tumblr aspects and try to turn it into something steadier.
For now, it's bed time. Another day done. Thanks for reading. Hope you stick around.
